Business Dinner and Networking

Participants at the Township of Huron -Kinloss Business Dinner and Networking Event
enjoyed a meal catered by Knuckles Southern Kitchen and BM on May 27, 2014.
The Second Annual Business
Dinner and Networking Event
hosted by the Township of Huron -
Kinloss at the Ripley -Huron Com-
munity Centre was a great success
according to the participants.
There was a mix of business own-
ers, council members as well as
representatives of various organi-
zations and not-for-profit groups.
This year's topic was "Marketing on
a Shoestring Budget',presented by
BerniaVVheaton of Achieve Consult-
ing Group. Her main focus was on
how these strategies work in rural
communities and how to develop a
brand and an image for your busi-
ness. Strategies included loyalty pro-
grams, contests, vouchers, social

enterprise, joint marketing, and an
overview of social media. Specific
social media touched on were Face -
book, Twitter, business websites,
e-mail marketing and how to sched-
ule social media posts.
Many participants shared their
views on the event, the topic and
on doing business in Huron -Kin-
loss both in the social time before
the meal catered by Knuckles
Southern Kitchen and BBQ and
after the presentation once the
draws were made for lucky partic-
ipants to claim the flowers on the
tables purchased from I.C. Green-
houses. Of course there were very
few tarts from Armstrong's Bakery
left after the meal.

Bernia Wheaton of Achieve Consulting Group was the guest
speaker at the Huron -Kinloss Business Dinner and Networking
Event held at the Ripley -Huron Community Centre on May 27,
2014.
Jennifer Thompson commented
that "this type of function is a
great way to show support for the
businesses in the community and
to bring the community together."
Mayor Twolan indicated that the
Township had received very positive
feedback from the first Annual Busi-
ness Dinner they had hosted the pre-
vious year. Many of those who com-
mented on this year's event were
pleased with the type and amount of
information that was presented and
believe that they have something that
they can take with them to help in
their businesses. Shirley Lewis partic-
ularly enjoyed seeing successful local
examples from within Southwestern
Ontario used throughout the
presentation.
Perhaps the comment that best
summed up the evening was that of
David Brown. "This event is an
absolutely terrific thing to do and I
am glad that the Township organ-
izes it. Too bad there are not 300
people in attendance. It is certainly
worth it:'
