Fast response put fire out quickly
Mike Murphy, chief of the Walkerton Fire Department, said that fire crews were able to get the fire out quickly, which made the battle easy. The fire started in a wall. The call to the residence came in at
1:23 p.m. last Friday at a residence on Bruce Road 1. OPP and EMS were on scene. Murphy didn't have estimates of damage available. Kincardine and Brockton responded. No one was hurt and there
were no charges laid as to the fire.

in London and as a volunteer in

Charitable Trust. She is currently the
Director of CARE Canada's Humani-
tarian Assistance and Emergency
Team based in Ottawa with frequent
travel to the field.
In addition to this, Women's House
is bringing a new and exciting draw
to International Women's Day.
This year will be the first year for a
Jewellery/Chocolate draw. Anasta-
sia's chocolates will be purchased as
entry into the draw and the winner
will go home with a white gold
Amethyst and Diamond necklace
sponsored by Wendt's Jewellery in
Mildmay.
"Purple is the colour for Interna-
tional Women's Day so it's very
exciting and fitting to bring such a
beautiful item to our event, and I look
forward to seeing who opens the win-
ning chocolate," said Love.
This year we will have a silent auc-
tion, which will replace the Penny
Sale of years past.
Also, a visual and emotionally
moving display by Jenny Iserman will
be on hand.
Iserman has been hard at work
completing her series of six quilts on
the theme of Violence Against
Women and is passionate about cre-
ating awareness and education of
others through her skilful art.
This event is a celebration, and is
also one of the major fundraisers for
Women's House.
The purchase of a ticket is not only
going to provide you with an after-
noon filled with great food and
entertainment, but also the chance to
support a worthy cause in our com-
munity, Love said.
Women's House has had some dif-
ficulty meeting fundraising targets
this fiscal year and would appreciate
the community support with this
major fundraiser.
Tickets are available at United Way
in Owen Sound, Lakeshore Recrea-
tion and Ralph's Hi -Way Shoppette in
Port Elgin,
Gordon's Pharmasave in Kincar-
dine or by calling Tiffany at Women's
House at 519-396-9814 ext.225.
