Women's House International Women's Day Celebration

House Serving Bruce and Grey
International Woman's Day
celebration.

The event takes place on March
8, 2014 at the Lakeshore Recrea-
tion Centre in Port Elgin, a former
Kincardine resident who has trav-
elled to remote parts of the world,
providing emergency assistance
with CARE and Red Cross and
other organizations.
"She was suggested to us by a
community member because she
is a home -town girl who can
really speak to the topic this year,
'Inspiring Change;" community
and fund development coordina-
tor Tiffany Love said in a media
release. "We welcome this won-
derful woman back into our
community and can't wait to hear
what she has to say."
Thomson joined CARE Canada
in 2011 as an Emergency
Response Program Manager.
Since joining CARE she has
been deployed to Chad, Mali,
Kenya, and Turkey as part of the
Horn of Africa Regional Team.
Prior to joining CARE, Thom-
son worked as a Protection Dele-
gate with the International Com-
mittee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in
Pakistan. She has also worked as
a Senior Policy Advisor in the
Humanitarian Affairs and Disas-
ter Response Group at the
Department of Foreign Affairs
and International Trade Canada,
leading the development of Cana-
dian policy related to UNHCR
(United Nations High Commis-
sioner for Refugees), refugees and
internally displaced persons
(IDPs).
Thomson was also a Senior Pol-
icy Advisor in the Refugees
Branch at Citizenship and Immi-
gration Canada.
Thomson began her career with
the United Nations High Com-
missioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
