Canada pcna Member of the Canadian Community Newspaper Association and the Ontario Community Newspapers Association Enough with winter Brrr, I'm ready for winter to be over now. It seems like everyday I wake up and feel the coldness and I'm reminded that it's still winter outside. I'll have one arm stuck outside of the covers, a chilled feeling seeping into my skin. I tuck it in underneath the warmth underneath the covers and rollover. My muscles move and quake to the first move- ments of the day. It's still dark outside and part of me sort of panics because I realize I didn't wake up to an alarm and I know it's one of two things: I slept through my alarm or I woke up before my alarm went off. My alarm then went off. Crisis averted. I know it's going to be another cold one. I think of my tunic sweater and wonder if it's clean (or clean enough) to wear to work. I can't remember, and at this point I don't care. letter to the editor All She Wrote Laura MacDuff OMI Agency I sneak around the house in my pajamas on the way to my cat's food bowl, hearing the sound of Hilde galloping along behind me. She has her eyes half-closed too, but her heart is in the right place - her stom- ach. I probably taught her that. I know it's going to be a cold one. I know Dad will call hop- ing to catch my Mom and I before we depart for the KINDness Day On February 22, Kin Canada is promoting Kin Canada's National Day of KINdness in cel- ebration of Founder Hal Rogers who began the first Kinsmen club in 1920. In past years, Kin Canada has celebrated Kin's National anniversary with heritage days to recognize Hal Rogers. This year they are trying, for the second time, something different by encouraging Kins- men and Kinette members, past or present, to perform a simple act of kindness on February 22 to honour all of the contribu- tions Kin clubs have made to Canadian society in the last ninety-four years. The Lucknow Kinsmen (1973) and Kinettes (1974) are proud of the many contributions made to our workday and remind us to start out vehicles up and let them warm up a bit before we put the hammer down on the Bruce County roads (he knows us well). Like clockwork, I hear the phone ring. I take a scalding hot shower knowing full well my Egzema may act up but I carry on. The warmth of the water beats the coldness of the drafts. I get ready to the sounds coming from my laptop- a mix of country, pop and the odd Spanish song that reminds me of a vacation I took in 2012. That's not good, because then I start trying to figure out how I can afford another vacation. I then put on my new bracelet and I'm reminded of why my toes aren't in the sand at a fancy resort somewhere. Then I turn and look at my closet and also my spinning bike. Oh yeah, that's why too. community, as well as countless other charities such as Kin Can- ada's National support of Cystic Fibrosis. In 2013 the Kinsmen donated $40,000 and the Kinette club donated $2,000 to Cystic Fibrosis. That's a major act of kindness, not to mention fund raising. However, KINdness Day isn't about money. Instead, it's just a reminder that a simple act of kindness like returning a grocery cart, visiting a senior, calling a 1 1 1 1,2 million Canadians -1 in 25 — carry Die gene for cystic fibrosis_ ei iiii Canadian Cystic de Fibrosis Foundation art To learn more, ploaso contact- 1-800-318-CCFF www.cysticiibrosis.ca www.lucknowsentinel.com Now is about the time I start to feel my cabin fever kick in. I imagine going for a jog (although I haven't jogged for awhile and I know I won't) in the sunny weather with the warmth of the sun beating down on me. I imagine the feel of the pavement under my shoes. But in reality, it's more like I imagine my toes on the gravel of my drive -way because I'm too lazy to put shoes on to go get the thing I want from the car that I forgot to take with me on the way into the house. One thing I know, is that the sun will come and so will sum- mer time. It'll be here before you know it. But then, just as I'm sure the summer will come, the winter will be back. Maybe next year I put money into a spinning bike and a wardrobe and a little more into sunscreen and flip-flops. friend, a friendly smile, etc. can make someone's day. You don't have to be a Kin member to be part of National KINdness Day. We all know how someone else's kind gesture makes us feel; let's all help pay this feeling forward on KINdness Day, Saturday February 21.
