hold meeting
Lucknow UCW Afternoon Group met on a sunny, winter
Feb.4 at River Valley Apts. Elaine Errington, Helen Cleland and
Mary Boyle led a program about love and Valentines Day.
Elaine welcomed everyone to our first meeting of 2014 with a
reading Road Trip Humour. Helen gave a prayer about love
and we sang "Love divine, all loves excelling."
Elaine read a sweet Valentine story about a secret admirer
who "lived in the mailbox.': Mary read scripture John 1 4:7-11.
Helen read Life's Diamond about loving oneself last. We sang
"Come, let us sing of a wonderful love."
Helen read about an old minister who believed his greatest
lesson was from the children's hymn "Jesus loves me, this I
know" and read a seniors' version. The group sang a verse of
"Jesus loves me.' Mary closed with a prayer.
Karen Latour opened business with a reading about happi-
ness from unconditional love. The group sent greetings to Edna
Alton healing well from a December knee replacement.
Ten members answered roll call giving articles for Women's
House of Bruce. Shirley Bolt gave the Treasurer's report of 2013
totals and collected our 2014 membership dues. Shirley is also
our one February birthday.
Mary read Least Coin notes about the women of France who
are taking on more significant public roles and asks us to pray
to end all forms of discrimination against women.
Karen read the answers to an interesting quiz we'd puzzled
over about some lesser-known Canadian facts.
As February is black history month, Nancy Walden shared
two 2014 Canada stamps remembering churches at the hub of
dismantled African -Canadian communities Africville NS and
Hogan's Alley in Vancouver BC. Also shared was a small
clothespin doll from Victoria BC called an Aids Angel, sales of
which support children and grandparents of Aids victims in
sub-Saharan Africa.
Remembering one of our Pinecrest members, Flora Webster,
who died in December, Karen read a lovely "remembering"
prayer. We closed the meeting reading the UCW prayer.
With a tasty lunch prepared by Shirley Bolt and Karen, we
enjoyed continued fellowship over hot cups of tea.
