Lucknow Lancers Beat First Place Elora Rocks
Dicky Dunn
This weekend in Senior
hockey saw the Lucicnow Lanc-
ers travel to Shelburne to play
the Muskies on Friday
night. The Lancers started off
well as they scored the only goal
of the first period. Tanner Simp-
son buried a rebound at the
11:21 of the opening
period. Jamie Miller and Joel
Alton earned the assists. The
second period was back and
forth and saw Shelburne score
three times. Jarris Ireland
responded for the Lancers with
help from Evan Ducharme and
Kenny Stanley. In the third
period the Lancers pressed to
tie the score but could not get
one past the Shelburne
goalie. The final score was 4 - 2
for Shelburne. The Lancers out -
shot the Muskies 46 to
32. Jamael Jacklin played vvell in

Saturday night Lucknow
hosted the first place Elora
Rocks. It was a great test for the
young Lancers and the team
rose to the challenge and
played very well. Coaches
Grant Gilchrist and Steve
Simpson demanded that the
players take short shifts and
force the Elora defence. The
strategy paid off as Lucknow
opened the scoring as Jamie
Miller ripped a shot from the
slot past the Rocks goalie. Tan-
ner "Tweet" Simpson started
the play by skating the puck up
the ice then made a perfect
pass to Miller. Joel Alton, who
had a very strong game, picked
up the second assist. The team
did not let up and continued to
carry the play and were
rewarded for the efforts as
Jamie Miller again scored his
second of the night. Alton and
Tweet earned the assists. The
team took a 2 - 0 lead into the

second period. The newly
formed line of Janis Ireland,
Kenny Stanley, and Evan
Ducharme gave the Elora
defence fits and drew two pen-
alties. On the power play the
Lancers created numerous
scoring chances and just as the
one penalty ended the Lancers
scored their third goal of the
game. Brett Binning who was
playing with "the old boys" as
Evan Rivett describes them,
ripped a shot from the slot and
beat the Elora goalie. Ricky
Andrew and Ben Gowing
earned the assists. The boys
continued their strong play
and built a 4 - 0 lead and
chased the Rocks starting
goalie. Simpson scored with
help from Jamie Miller and the
player of the game goalie
Jamael Jacldin. This gave Luc -
know a 4 - 0 lead heading into
the final period. This period
was where Jacklin stood on his
head. He stopped Elma's snip-
pers time and time again. In
the league stats Elora has three
players in the top five in
points. Jacldin was a wall in net
and battled and held the lead
and Lucknow beat the top
team in the league with a final
score of 4 - 3. This was a huge
