HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 2014-12-17, Page 9Wednesday, December 17, 2014 • Lucknow Sentinel 9 Lucknow Lancers Beat First Place Elora Rocks Dicky Dunn This weekend in Senior hockey saw the Lucicnow Lanc- ers travel to Shelburne to play the Muskies on Friday night. The Lancers started off well as they scored the only goal of the first period. Tanner Simp- son buried a rebound at the 11:21 of the opening period. Jamie Miller and Joel Alton earned the assists. The second period was back and forth and saw Shelburne score three times. Jarris Ireland responded for the Lancers with help from Evan Ducharme and Kenny Stanley. In the third period the Lancers pressed to tie the score but could not get one past the Shelburne goalie. The final score was 4 - 2 for Shelburne. The Lancers out - shot the Muskies 46 to 32. Jamael Jacklin played vvell in the Lucknownet Saturday night Lucknow hosted the first place Elora Rocks. It was a great test for the young Lancers and the team rose to the challenge and played very well. Coaches Grant Gilchrist and Steve Simpson demanded that the players take short shifts and force the Elora defence. The strategy paid off as Lucknow opened the scoring as Jamie Miller ripped a shot from the slot past the Rocks goalie. Tan- ner "Tweet" Simpson started the play by skating the puck up the ice then made a perfect pass to Miller. Joel Alton, who had a very strong game, picked up the second assist. The team did not let up and continued to carry the play and were rewarded for the efforts as Jamie Miller again scored his second of the night. Alton and Tweet earned the assists. They had another amazing game together and are definitely starting to work as a team. Grayden McNee scored the first goal assisted by by Ewan Johnston. Colton Maki scored the second goal which was assisted by Marlee Courtney. Grayden McNee scored two more goals assisted by Alexis Greig both times and Ewan Johnston scored a goal assisted by Grayden McNee. Way to go Initation 2! Brett Binning who was playing with "the old boys" as Evan Rivett describes them, ripped a shot from the slot and beat the Elora goalie. Ricky Andrew and Ben Gowing earned the assists. The boys continued their strong play and built a 4 - 0 lead and chased the Rocks starting goalie. Simpson scored with help from Jamie Miller and the player of the game goalie Jamael Jacldin. This gave Luc - know a 4 - 0 lead heading into the final period. This period was where Jacklin stood on his head. He stopped Elma's snip- pers time and time again. In the league stats Elora has three players in the top five in points. Jacldin was a wall in net and battled and held the lead and Lucknow beat the top team in the league with a final score of 4 - 3. Friday night the team travels to Ripley to battle the Wolves. Saturday night the Lancers host the Saugeen Shores Winterhawlcs. It will also be Christmas sweater night and the team will be displaying their Christmas spirit Saturday December 27 the Lancers host Ripley.
