Merry Christmas from the North
Huron Community Food Share
At this time, our Board of
Directors would like to say
"Thank You" for all the very
generous donations to keep
our Food Bank fully stocked
over the Holiday Season. The
ongoing generosity of you,
our supporters, when asked
time and again to donate
more food, shows the com-
passion that local small
towns and rural areas have
for the less fortunate. A
growing number of local
groups, businesses and indi-
viduals continue to support
our cause.
We have seen a continuing
rise in the use of the Food
Bank, with 47 families
accessing our services the
first week in December this
year. I think it's important
that people realize, we only
"Supplement" the client's
existing food and they can
only access our services,
once a month. We still use
the same criteria for allotting
food to families based on the
number of family members
as was established in 1995,
when the Food Bank
opened. Unfortunately we
have had to cut back on
handing out vouchers for
eggs and milk, so that we can
use that money to buy more
groceries to help the increas-
ing number of clients. We
are having new families
come to the Food Share
almost every week. These are
not new families to our area,
but rather families that now,
due to health, lack of work or
even marital situations, find
themselves a little short of
food each month. It takes a
lot of soul searching to
finally admit that you need
to come to the Food Share
for assistance.
In a recent article in the
Advance -Times, the Ontario
Association of Food Banks
letters to the editor
The Have Not's
At this time of year it is
important to think about the
"have not's" those on our
doorstep, in Ontario, indeed
Canada and the whole world.
When one looks at the facts
below ft is easy to see why we
have many affected by pov-
erty in Ontario. There is also a
paucity of Justice on so many
levels.
We spend $50 billion more
on buying electricity than we
sold it for (Auditor General
2014 Report). She also
flagged Ontario's growing
debt as a concern. The net
debt was more than $267 bil-
lion as of March. And to think
there is a 25% increase in
electricity rates coming. The
Financial Post in 2011
observed that it "...will cost
Ontario ratepayers over $125
-million annually for power
that won't be delivered to the
grid." The author also noted
that Ontario ratepayers spent
$10 million dollars for just
one day, in November 2014,
for wind power. Electricity we
did not need, in fact we
exported electricity at the
same time. In a recent Fraser
Institute Study, titled "What
Goes up.. .Ontario's Soaring
Electricity Prices and How to
get them Down" the authors
observed that "Ontario's total
annual power cost has risen
by over 50% since 2004" and
"...that solar and wind pro-
vide just under 4 percent of
Ontar io's power but
accounted for about 20% of
the average commodity cost
in 2013". Furthermore "We
also recommend a morato-
rium on new renewable
power capacity; pursuit of
regulatory and legislative
options to reduce operating
renewable capacity..."
At the October 14, 2014
Brown County Board of
Health meeting, a motion
was unanimously approved
declaring the Shirley Wind
released its 2014 Hunger
Report this week, revealing
that almost 375,000 individ-
uals - more than one third
children - are turning to
Food Banks each month.
"Unstable employment con-
ditions, unsustainable wages
and rising costs of food,
transportation and shelter
are forcing a growing num-
ber of Ontarians to have to
choose between paying their
bills and putting food on the
table. The largest groups of
food bank users are chil-
dren, women over 18, single
parent families, individuals
who require social assis-
tance and rental tenants."
The directors of the North
Huron Community Food
Share are continuing to
come up with "Fund Raiser"
ideas. We seem to be preach-
ing the same message, every
time I write an editorial, but
the fact remains we are in
Turbines a "Human health
Hazard': The text states "To
declare the Industrial Wind
Turbines at Shirley Wind pro-
ject in the Town of Glenmore,
Brown County, WI. a human
health Hazzard for all people
(residents, workers, visitors
and sensitive passersby) who
are exposed to Infrasound/
Low Frequency Noise and
other emissions potentially
harmful to human health':
For those who do not know
the Shirley Wind project con-
sists of 8 turbines approxi-
mately 500ft tall.
Many have been asking
"does the King know he has
no clothes on?" My answer is
we told Dalton McGuinty,
Kathleen Wynne indeed the
whole Liberal Party but they
choose to remain blind. How
much longer will it be before
they acknowledge truth? That
is to say the Green Energy Act
is a monumental failure that
is destroying the health and
need of food and monetary
donations every month of
the year, not just the Christ-
mas Season. If you or your
group have an idea to help
us out, PLEASE contact our
board listed on our website
(www.nhfo odshare. ca) or
"like us" on facebook. I'm
proud to once again men-
tion that all our directors
and our many volunteers,
are not paid for their valua-
ble service to the Food
Share. All monies and food
that we receive, stay right
here to serve Wingham and
the surrounding area.
As I've stated before, one
of the best closing lines of
any movie is from "Scrooge':
I leave you with the immor-
tal last words spoken by Tiny
Tim... ."God Bless Us,
Everyone':

economic stability of
Ontarians.
For those of us who know
the King has no clothes on,
let us think about the "have
not's" this Christmas
I will leave you with two
quotes from Pope Francis.
First one "Every man, every
woman who has to take up
service of Government, must
ask themselves two ques-
tions: 'Do I love my people in
order to serve them better?
Am I humble and do I listen
to everybody, to diverse
opinions in order to choose
the best path?' If you do not
ask those questions, your
governance will not be good:'
And "Human rights are not
only violated by terrorism,
repression or assignation, but
also by unfair economic
structures that create huge
inequities."
