The Inaugural Meeting for
the 2014 Township of Huron -
Kinloss Council was held on
December 1,2014 in the Coun-
cil Chambers in Ripley.
The Oath of Office was
administered by Clerk of
Huron -Kinloss Sonya Watson
to Mayor Mitch Twolan, Dep-
uty Mayor Wilfred Gamble and
Councillors Lillian Abbott, Jeff
Elliott, Jim Hanna, Don Murray
and Carl Sloetjes.
Mayor Twolan said his thank
you, including to the constitu-
ents who have entrusted him to
be their elected Mayor. "It is an
honour and a privilege to be
standing here as Mayor of
Huron -Kinloss. He praised the
remarkable councilors he is
honoured to work with in mak-
ing Huron -Kinloss Council a
successful and functioning
council. "They do not agree on
everything, but that is what
makes a good council:' When
they do not agree, it is left at the
table, not aired in public, as
befits their trusted positions
and obligation to their public to
be professional and accounta-
ble. Twolan described the staff
to be "second to none, with
excellent hearts and work in the
best interests of both the con-
stituents and the Council!' He
acknowledged that the treas-
urer would have a tough term
as there have been many cuts in
funding, requiring tough
budget decisions to be made.
Twolan appreciates that all
Councillors and staff, not only
in the office but throughout the
Township, work together so
well.
Following Twolan's remarks
the Code of Conduct was cir-
culated and signed. Each offi-
cial was then invited to add
their own remarks. All
expressed their agreement
with the statements of Mayor
Twolan.
Deputy Mayor Gamble
thanked the residents of
Huron -Kinloss, staff and
reporters. He stated he was
thankful to be "working with
the top-notch team we have:'
Councillor Hanna expanded
on the remark that the
Councillors do not always
agree. He stated that it was an
excellent Council "not because
we always agree, but because
there is good debate which I
how good decisions are made:'
Councillor Abbot is happy to
be representing Huron -Kin-
loss. There are major projects
on the go and she is looking
forward to bringing some for-
ward such as natural gas and
nuclear waste. "Learning about
these and becoming more
aware might be very important
in the community in the dec-
ades to come!'
Councillor Murray com-
mended those who sit on com-
mittees and all workers in the
Township of Huron -Kinloss.
These are the ones who make
the Township work
Councillor Sloetjes enjoys
working with the team and the
staff and is glad that he
switched over from his former
area.
Councillor Elliott is hon-
oured to continue to be a part
of the Council. "It is fun to
come to meetings. Let's carry
on."
