Lancers Hard Work Finally Pays Off
Submitted
ThisThis past weekend the Sr. A
Lucknow Lancers eamed their
first two wins of the 2014-2015
season. Starting the weekend
off with a road game in Shal-
low Lake squaring off against
the second place Crushers, the
Lancers' hard work and fast
paced play proved to be too
much for the competition. The
game was a back and forth bat-
tle, with goals coming from
rookie Jamie Miller, Shawn
Moore and veteran Matt
McClinchey, as well as solid
goaltending from Jamael Jack -
lin, giving the Lancers a 3-2
lead late in the game. With
only minutes left in regulation,
however, the Crushers scored
to tie the game, but the Lancers
fought back and reclaimed the
lead with Matt McClinchey
scoring his second of the night
with less than a minute to play.
McClinchey's goal would
stand as the game winner,
earning the Lancers their first
win of the season.
On Saturday night the Lanc-
ers hosted the Shelburne
Muskies, hoping to carry over
the momentum from Friday
night's game. The game got off
to a slow start with no scoring
from either side for most of the
first period. The Lancers, keep-
ing with their fast paced play,
drew a penalty after the mid-
point of the period giving them
their first powerplay of the
game. With the man advan-
tage the Lancers would take
the first lead of the game with a
nifty one -timer from Jamie
Miller. As the game progressed,
the continued stellar play of
Jacklin between the pipes as
well as the hard work from the
rest of the Lancers team led to
a 3-0 lead late in the third
period. Scoring for the Lancers
was again Jamie Miller (his
third of the weekend) and Matt
McClinchey (also his third of
the weekend).
The Muskies would go on to
score one (questionable) goal
before the end of the period,
but were unable to come up
with a solution to putting the
puck past Jacldin. The game
would end a final 3-1 in favour
of the Lancers, earning the
team a much needed 4
points. Assists went to Brett
Phillips, Evan Rivett, Rick
Andrew with three, Tanner
Simpson with two, and Chase
Chapman.
Both games were played
with great effort by all team
members and a total commit-
ment to a team game. The
Lancers also raised over $800
for Prostate Cancer
Research!!! Thank you to all the
support. Pictures of the players
can be found on the team's
facebook page.
The Lucknow Tykes enter-
tained the crowd Saturday
night during the first intermis-
sion and the Lancers wish to
thank them for their support
and motivation.
The Lancers next home
game is Saturday December 13
against Elora. The Lancers will
attempt to carry on their win-
ning streak next weekend, Fri-
day December 5th in Durham
against the Thunder Cats.
