It's Parade Time Again
• Lucknow Fall
Fair
Joanne McDonagh
Lucknow Kinette and parade
committee member
The 151st Lucknow Fall Fair
is September 19th to Septem-
ber 21th, 2014. An important
part of this annual event is the
Fall Fair Parade which starts at
11:00 A.M on September 20th.
The theme for this year's fair is
"Family Farm" so the decorat-
ing should be easy. The Luc -
know Kinette club is helping
the Agricultural Society with
the parade, and the parade
committee is hoping for lots of
participation. It would be great
to see the family farms well
represented. Many area resi-
dents have either grown up on
a family farm, live on a family
farm, have visited a family farrn
or at least have seen a family
farm. It is a familiar topic in this
agricultural community. It
would be terrific to see lots of
business, family, and individ-
ual entries. There are numer-
ous categories - children's sec-
tion, pedestrians, horses,
floats, and vehicles. It would be
wonderful to have a long and
colourful parade to watch.
The Kin Spirit/Participa-
tion contest is on again this
year. The Lucknow Kinsmen
have provided prize money
for this event .The Kinettes
are challenging Lucknow
Public school and Brookside
Public school to take part in
the parade. The criteria for
winning prize money for the
school is outlined below.
1. Have a school float that is
based on the theme "Family
Farm" and shows school
spirit. This float is worth 50
participation points and more
added for participants.
2. Also, students as individ-
uals can register in existing
categories in the Children's,
Pedestrian and other Float
categories. Each registrant in
these categories
( in appropriate costume)
adds 10 points to the school
total. The Agricultural Society
also awards prize money for
individuals in these
categories.
3. The school needs 100
points minimum to qualify for
the $300 or $200 Spirit/Partici-
pation prize.
4. Information is available
at the school.
You can get a parade reg-
istration form at the Senti-
nel office, Home Hardware
or online at www.lucknow-
agsociety.ca No one will be
turned away. However,
judging starts at 10:00 a.m..
Assembly areas are on the
registration form, as well as
being announced in the
Lucknow Sentinel the week
before. Parade marshals will
give directions also. We are
looking forward to people
getting involved in our com-
munity and taking part in
the parade.

Kindergarten is one of the
most important milestones
in a child's life. The new
school year is just around
the corner and we recognize
there are many parents of
young children who want to
know more about their
child's kindergarten experi-

significance now that Full

Our kindergarten pro-
grams center around the
image of the child as being
competent and capable of
complex thinking. This plan-
ning is built around the
notion that the kindergarten
classroom is a place of won-
der, a place to explore the
world, ask questions,
develop theories, and pre-
sent learning through many
different modes.
A typical day in a kinder-
garten classroom begins
with students signing in
and taking responsibility
for their belongings and
routines. Greeted by their
early learning team con-
sisting of a Teacher and a
Designated Early Child-
hood Educator, the chil-
dren typically choose
which area of the class-
room they wish to begin
their play based inquiry
time. Throughout these
inquiry times the educators
work with small groups of
students and individuals to
provide precision teaching
in developmentally appro-
priate literacy and numer-
acy skills.
At strategic times through-
out the day the children may
be called to meet as a whole
group in knowledge building
circles or community meet-
ings. At this time the educa-
tors support the students to
share their learning, their
theories and ideas so others
can become excited about
the learning that is happen-
ing across the room.
Kindergarten programs in
Ontario have undergone a
transformation in recent
years. At the Avon Maitland
District School Board we
have embraced the new kin-
dergarten philosophy and
understandings of how chil-
dren learn and strive to
maintain high quality pro-
grams across the district.
