The Evolution
Continues
There have been some changes to the
faces and places of the people involved
with bringing you the Lucknow Sentinel
each and every week.
It is my privilege to introduce in this
edition the newcomers to this particular
office. We have a new Publisher/Sales
Manager, John Bauman, who is working
with three publications in the Sun Media
group. We also have Jessica Bailey as our
new Office Manager. It is always exciting
to bring new ideas and personalities into
the mix.
I am sure that many of you will miss
seeing Marilyn Miltenburg in the office.
We wish her all the best in her future
endeavors.
Those are the faces that have changed.
As for the places... I am now a resident of
Lucknow. Yes, the move has been made.
It is my hope that by cutting out the long
commute, that I will be even more pre-
sent and available to cover and record
the news and milestones that make up
the story of Lucknow and the surround-
ing area. It will also afford me the time
and opportunity to experience more of
the many things this area has to offer.
I would like to take this opportunity to
thank those of you who have made me
feel welcome in Lucknow, as well as in
the surrounding communities. I already
feel that I am at home here. I am still
learning of the hidden gems in the coun-
tryside and look forward to discovering
the many settlements, events, groups
and businesses.
I would also like to thank those who
have been submitting materials and
photos for publication. I appreciate the
effort and commitment the various
people have put in to make the Sentinel
a community paper. I will continue to
strive to build relationships between
the Sentinel and the various groups and
event co-ordinators to work together for
positive results for all. I especially
appreciate the cooperation I have been
experiencing with the various service
groups and with the library. I am
pleased that the various 4-H clubs have
taken up the invitation to submit their
reports and photos. A sports section
has been developing through the
efforts of those involved in submitting
results each week. Although some may
not wish to admit it, soon a new school
year will provide more materials as the
staff and students move through the
programs and activities. I am always
leery of listing those who submit, as I
am sure that I will unintentionally
leave someone out. The variety in the
paper is steadily growing. Just this
week I have spoken with some of the
Writers Group and have arranged that
they will begin to provide book reviews
as publications become available. I
look forward to hearing from anyone
who has ideas of new items of interest
to the readership.
It is very uplifting to have received so
many positive comments on the evolu-
tion of the Sentinel. I know I have made
some mistakes, and as a mere human I
expect that I will make more in the
future. However, I am committed to
doing my best in the role that I have had
the privilege of being granted.
I am looking forward to a long and
rewarding future in this vibrant rural
area. I am just at the beginning of being
introduced to the many facets that
make up the lifestyles and flavour of the
area. This is most certainly a new
adventure begun.
Lucknow News
By Ruth Dobrensky
Happy late 95th birthday to Nina
MacDonald in Ripley. Nina lived in Luc -
know until a few years ago.
Now that the summer is half over, all
parents are out shopping for their chil-
dren's back to school clothes, etc., and
looking forward to someone else guid-
ing them through their days. But, there
are still a few weeks left to get out and
enjoy whats left of summer with your
children. I will be spending next week
with my nephew Nick, we're going on
another adventure. My sister Linda and
her husband Marc will have the pleas-
ure of our company while we go cruis-
ing on Georgian Bay and go to places
like Sainte Marie among the Hurons. If
I'm able to, I'll try to write and email a
column from my sisters place. If I don't
have the time or am too tired, you'll
have to miss my column for a week.
This past weekend the fundraiser for
Cayden Sloetjes was held in Chesley. I
wasn't able to attend myself but I heard
that it went over very well and we all
hope that little Cayden will be better
very soon.
Dungannon held their Fair this past
weekend with lots for everyone to take
part in. There was a good turnout and
everyone had a good time. I myself have
a thing for chickens and enjoyed look-
ing them all over.
Speaking of animals, I saw a video
about a farmer from the State of Kansas
who summons his guys by sitting on a
chair out on his farm while playing his
trombone, not only do the cows come
when he plays, they accompany him
once they get to where he's sitting. It's a
hoot, it's on You Tube under farmer
Klingenberg.
Music in the Fields will be here soon,
I heard the tickets are sold out which
may not be correct, but would be
understandable with such a great line-
up. It looks like it will be another big
success even before it happens. Con-
grats to all the organizers, you're doing
a great job.

Open Water Calls Former
Lucknow Resident
Dale Lougheed
A former Lucknow resident Margie
Lougheed has participated in "Open Water
Swims" this summer for fun. She has been
training at the YMCA pool over the past
months. In July she was one of 600 partici-
pants in the Ottawa River for a 3000 m
"Bring on the Bay" fundraiser for Easter
Seals. Margie placed 2nd overall for fund-
raising and had a reasonable time in her
class as well. In August she was one of 450
participants in a 3500 m "Point to LaPointe"
race in Bayfield Wisconsin in Lake Superior
(66'F) - again placing well in her time class.
Later in August a relay team of work col-
leagues will participate in the Goderich Tri-
athalon - once again for fun.
