It was thrilling to receive so many responses
to the invitation for community members to
was
their news, reports and photos to the
Lucknow Sentinel.
I have been asked my priorities for inclusion.
My vision, and that of Sun Media, is the Luc -
know Sentinel is a community newspaper. It
will feature news, images and submissions from
Lucknow, the Townships of Huron -Kinloss and
Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, then broaden
out to neighbouring areas, Bruce and Grey
Counties and further as it is relevant to our coverage area
and as space permits.
Here are some guidelines for submissions. Contact infor-
mation is appreciated. It is a Sun Media policy that the date
appears with photos and print copy. The name and title/
position of the writer and photographer should be clearly
stated somewhere to receive credit as the creator, otherwise
Val's Views
Valerie Gillies
it will appear as "submitted': Please keep it brief
to avoid having it edited down and possibly los-
ing a main point to fit the space. For photos, pro-
vide the names of all who appear in order, as
well as a brief description of what the picture is
about. By law, when taking photos of those
deemed as vulnerable populations including
minors, seniors and those with developmental
challenges, it is important to receive at least ver-
bal permission from an adult in a guardianship
role for the pictures to appear in print and in the
online version of the publication.
I will be creating a form with this information to assist Vol-
unteer Reporters. It will be available by request at the office
and by e-mail at lucknow.editorial@sunmedia.ca.
A hearty thank you for rising to the call to make the Luc -
know Sentinel by and for the communities and the sur-
rounding area it serves.
