Dogs returned with help of social media
Kincardine News reporter Steven Goetz was on his way to Toronto from Kincardine on Thursday
evening when he came across a pair of dogs wandering on Highway 9 west of Bruce Road 1.
Goetz pulled over along with a couple in a pickup truck. They managed to get the dogs in the
back. After checking with local farms to see if anyone knew the owners, Goetz called the South
Bruce OPP, who dispatched Sharon Niemeier, Kincardine's bylaw enforcement officer, who
collected the dogs. The Mcarthurs, who live at Fishermen's Cove, came home at 5:30 p.m. to
discover the two dogs were missing and immediately began their search. The story came to a
happy conclusion after Goetz posted this photo to the Lucknow Sentinel Facebook page, which
the owners saw within three hours.
UCW getting set for Easter
Nancy Walden
Lucknow UCW
Lucknow UCW Afternoon Group met on
April 1, once again at River Valley Apts.
Leader Karen Latour welcomed everyone
with a reading about Hugs, what a gift to
share, warm like wrapped in a shawl.
As Easter approaches later this month,
Karen led us in a German Tenebrae Good
Friday service. Extinguishing candles one by
one, going from light to darkness, while read-
ing select verses from Matthew, Mark, and
John, we reflected on the path of Jesus to the
cross on Calvary that took his light from the
world.
We sang "Were You There?': Karen read
about the rays of God's love that warm us
heart and soul. We sang "Lead Me to Cal-
vary':With a reading about snowdrops, we
were happy to share our sightings of spring
so far—snowdrops blooming, daffodil shoots
apppearing, robins chirping, despite the lin-
gering chill of a long winter. A few more
readings about time and symbols of Easter
closed the program.
In business, minutes were read and 13
members answered roll call. Shirley Bolt gave
the treasurer's report. Joyce Adamson is our
one April birthday. Helen Cleland read the
Least Coin notes about praying for healing
that considered the wide spectrum of heal-
ings needed in our world. We prayed the
Prayer of the Least Coin.
Having attended the area Presbyterial
meeting in Chesley last week, Karen shared
one detail presented about Women's House
in Kincardine, of the sheer numbers of new
socks and underwear, never recycled, always
needed for clientele, a need Lucknow UCW
helps supply. We closed with the the UCW
Prayer.
We enjoyed continued fellowship with a
light lunch prepared by Karen and Gertie
Henderson. A reminder our May meeting at
the Church will start with a 12:30 luncheon.

A photography exhibit, depicting life for
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
youth in Grey and Bruce Counties, is on
display for the month of April in the foyer at
the Bluewater Education Centre in
Chesley.
The show, entitled Photovoice - Growing
Up Gay in Bruce and Grey: The Digital Edi-
tion, features photos taken by area youth
and documents slices of their lives as they
were in various stages of coming out.
Each has a caption that explains the
thoughts of the photographer at the time,
or, in retrospect.
"There are some incredibly powerful
messages in those photos," trustee Kevin
Larsen said, adding he was "quite
impressed" with the youth's work.
Board chair Marg Gaviller agreed. "It is
an honour for us to have the display here ...
it gets a good message across in a sensitive
and imaginative way."
The project was made possible with gen-
erous support from FotoArt in Owen
Sound, The Ontario Secondary School
Teachers' Federation - District 7 and the
Grey -Bruce Labour Council.
The public is welcome to view the exhibit
during business hours.
