Liberal Senate wants public to ask questions
The Senate Liberal Caucus has invited
Canadians to submit questions they
wish asked of the government in the
Senate.
"This will open up Parliament to the
citizens from the regions we represent
- it will give Canadians a direct voice,
asking the questions they want
answered. By involving Canadians
directly, it will also increase the
accountability of the government and
reduce partisanship in Parliament;" said
Senator Art Eggleton of Ontario.
Canadians immediately began sub-
mitting questions, and on Tuesday,
March 4, the first publicly -submitted
question was asked during Senate
Question Period. Senator James Cowan
of Nova Scotia, the Leader of the Oppo-
sition in the Senate, asked
the government to justify its copyright
concessions under the proposed Can-
ada -EU free trade agreement. The
question came from Sterling Mancuso
of Newmarket, Ontario.
Senator Eggleton then rose and asked
the government how it plans to address
low voter turnout among young Cana-
dians. That question came from Jordan
Hill of Dundas, Ontario.
"The response from Canadians has
been very encouraging - and we
launched the website less than a month
ago," said Senator Eggleton. "Canadians
are sending in serious, thoughtful ques-
tions they want the government to
answer'

Thompson Calls for
Public Release of Information
Huron Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson
has made a call to see the Milestone
Date for Commercial Operation for
renewable energy projects in Ontario to
be once again made publically
available
Thompson made the request in the
Ontario Legislature on March 19.
"This information used to be easily
available online, and has since been
removed, said Thompson. "I urge the
government, and the Ontario Power
Authority, to immediately make the
Milestone Date for Commercial Opera-
tion for all renewable energy projects in
Ontario publicly available':
Thompson raised the case of Ray-
mond Beaudry, of Manitoulin Island,
who went as far as filing a Freedom of
Information Act Request in an attempt
to find out information about industrial
wind projects in his local community.
He has not yet been provided with the
requested information.
"Once again, the Liberal government
is refusing to be open and transparent
with the people of Ontario; said Thom-
son. "This information will have a big
impact on many communities in
Huron -Bruce and across the province':
"The only honest thing to do is to
make it freely and publically available':
