John McDermott, a brakeman of To-
ronto, fell beneath a C. P. R. freight
train near Myrtle station on Monday
last, and had both his legs out off by

immigrants deported from Montreal by
the immigration authorities there.
Among them were thirteen C. P. R.
mechanics, who failed to make good.
The greater number of those deported
were English or Scotch, with a few
Europeans of other nationality.

On October 17, Miss Annie Luella
(Elia) Westeott, second daughter of
Mrs Wm. Wescott, of Seaforth, was
married to Mr, William T'wamley, of
McGregor, Manitoba, and formerly of

The home of Mr. and Mas. Charles
Walmsley, 10th concession Bruce, was
the scene of a very bappy event on the
14th of Ootober, when their daughter,
Maud, was united in marriage to Mr.
Wm. A. MoKenzte, of the same conces-
sion. The ceremony was performed in
the parlor under an arch of evergreens
and flowers.
There was a marked increase in
the output of oreamery butter in Bri-
tish Columbia during the : ,ven years,
1900-1907. In 1900 the output was
395,808 lbs: In 1907 it was 1,283,797
lbs., an increase of 224 per Dent, The
value during the same period increas-
ed 292 per cent. There was no factory
cheese made in British Columbia in
1900. In 1907 90,400 lbs. were made,
valued at $12,050.

It will be with deep regret' that the
citizens of Kincardine will learn of the
death of Mrs, McPherson, wife of Capt.
Finlay McPherson, which sad event oo-
ourred at her home in Port Elgin on
Saturday morning, October 24th in her
62nd year. Deceased's maiden name
Margaret GoIlan. She was born in Cape
Breton and when a girl moved with her
parents to Kinloss. She weB married to
Capt. McPherson and they lived in
Goderioh for a time. They also lived in
Lions Head and Kincardine and about
a year ago left there to reside in Port
Elgin.

On Sunday morning last, Mrs. I.
Holmes, of Winnipeg, was lighting the
firm with the kerosene can, when it
exploded, setting fire to her dress. Her
only child, a lad of about twelve years

in endeavoring to save her, was him-
self fatally burned. Both died in the
hospital a few hours later.

Y,, named Louis Wolf, who has been
repeatedly arrested, on charges of pick.

Monday last. . In the past, when ar-
rested for pocket picking he had al-
ways succeeded in concealing his real
identity. This time, however, he made
no attempt to do so, but confessed
that, while publicly known as a rug
manufacturer, he was a confirmed
thief, r•1d had no hope of being able
to control the impulse to steal, when
it came over him. It was not the
money he wanted, hat the stealing it-
self. He admitted that he had made
as mach as $7,000 in a year, through
picking pockets.
At the home of Mr. Robert McIntosh,
12th oonoession, ITowiok, Wednesday
evening, Oot. 28th, at 5 o'clock, his
daughter, Miss Edna, was united in
Marriage to Mr. James Lorne Laird.

Rev. Mr. Perrin, of the Wroxeter Pres-
byterian Church, in the presence of a
large number of invited guests.

Fisher, Huron Road, on the evening of

their friends were present from Exeter,
Winghan, Colborne, and elsewhere. .
After partaking of a most sumptuous
repast, Mr. and Mrs. Batt were present-
ed with a purse of gold, for which Mr.
Butt expressed his thanks, after which
short addresses were made by Rev. W.
H. Butt, Centralia; Rev, W. Baugh,
Benmiller; Jas. Drlgatty, of Stanley,
and others. Mr. Batt e'.thongh 70 years
of age, has never been out of Ontario,
having been born shortly after his par-
ents landed here, and both he and his,
wife are in the very beet of health.
They have resided on the Maitland
Concession, of Colborne for a great
many years, where they are hold in high
esteem.

On Monday morning, October 26th
the sudden and unexpected death of
Mrs. Hugh Graham, aged 73 years, oc-
curred at the family residence, South
street, Kincardine. The late Mrs. Gra-
ham had only been ill a few days suffer-
ing from au acoute attack of pneumonia.
Her death was a great shook to the
family and friends. Deceased was born
in Drnmbho, Asswent,Southerlandshire,
