-Mrs. Elizabeth Pattison, wife of Mr.
F. M. Pattison, founder of the Canadian
Order of Home Circles, died at her home
in Toronto last week.
-Mr. John Proctor, of Hamilton, a
director of of the Bank of Hamilton for
over thirty years, died at his summer
home in Scotland on Tuesday morning.
-Chief Clark, Fireman Weir and
,Col, Cockburn, of London are dead as
the result of being caught in the ruins
of a big fire in that city on Tuesday
,evening.
-Mies Nellie Whiteman, of Tees•
water, has taken a position at the Wing -
ham Flour Mills. Miss Whiteman is a
graduate of the. Wingham Business
College.
-A number of the citizens of Wing -
ham attended the Trinity Church Gar-
den Party at Blyth last Friday evening.
The Wingham Citizens' Band furnished
the music.
Mies Fannie Patterson has returned
/some after spending her holidays with
relatives and friends iu Galt and Ayr.
Mr. John Nichol left on Friday for

Liberal candidate for the Commons for
East Huron, was calling on his Winghare
friends on Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. B. Winfield, Mrs, W. H.
Elliott and family, and Mise Annie
Barber, are spending a week Damping
on Purvis' Lake, near Lnoknow.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter 5, Fisher, who
have been visiting with Wingham rela-
tives for a few weeks, left for their
home in Montreal on Wednesday.

children left for their home in Winni.

Mr. R. A. Hutchison returned home

turned to Wiugham after spending the
holidays at St. Thomas, Montreal and
other places. An enjoyable part of
their outing was a trip down the St.
Lawrence.
Mrs. Cummins and daughter, Miss
Mildred, of .Amos, West Virginia; Mrs.
W. M. Bell, Mrs. Fraser and daughter,
Miss Helen, of Sietersville. West Vir-
ginia; Misses Catharine, Margaret and
Ruth McNaught, of Manietta, Ohio, are
visiting at Mrs. Gilohrist's.
Mr. Thos. J. Elliott, who left on the
excursion for the west last Friday, is
destined for Stettler, Alberta, where he
intends Spending a few months. He
has not, however, decided to remove
his family from Wingham, where he
has been an esteemed resident for the
past thirty years.

Canada's imports show a decrease of
$39,915,809 for the first four months of
the fiscal year. In the same period the
export of manufactures increased to the
extent of $250,000.
-Mr. John Cameron, of Woodstock,
for many years governor of the Oxford
smunty jail, died soddenly on Monday,
having fallen down the cellar stairs in
his dwelling.
-Miss Jessie L. Wilson, daughter of
Mr. G-avin Wilson of Turnborry, has
been engaged as teacher in the Londes•
boro school and left for that place on
Monday morning.
-Miss Katharine Stevenson, formerly
superintendent of the Wingham General
Hospital, is now touring the Old Land,
in. company with her brother and sister-
in-law. Writing to Wingham friends,
under the date of August 4th, Mise
Stevenson says they are having a de-
lightful time, and enjoying the trip very
much.
