At the annual school meeting in S
N0 1 R .1. Houvr'r was re-elected trustee
and along with D. Glassier and Thos.
Alcock will manage affairs. $1 98 was
the contract price for 8 cords of wood to
be supplied by Thos. Alcock.
Neil J MoNair was chosen trustee of
S. S. No. 8. 10 cords of wood were
bought at $1 89. Mise McGillivray is
the new teaoher Per 1908, sohool opening
last Monday, The two other trustees
are Jas. D. McNair and Wm. Woods.
The latest returns in the Local Option
voting, up to time of going to press) show
that the by-law bas carried in thirty-one
municipalities, fourteen being towns or
incorporated villages; lost through
three -Saha clause in twenty-four planes,
nine of these being towna or villages;
defeated in twenty-five places, of which
fifteen are towns or villages. In the re-
turns up to this time the carrying of
Local Option in the thirty-one munici-
palities, wiil close ninety-five bars on the
let of May neat.
The municipalities near Wingham in
which campaigns were held were Oalross
Township. There is one hotel in this
township, at Formosa, in the extreme
north-east end of the township. The
by-law was defeated. In Wroxeter the
vote was 48 for to 63 against. In Howick
the by-law was carried by four over the
three-fifths requirement. In this town-
ship there are four hotels, two at Gorrie,
one at Fordwioli and Belmore. We
understand that a recount will be asked
for in this township.

The annual school meeting of S. 5.
No. 2 was held ou Deo. 26th, with M.
Stewart in the chair. Jas. Houston was
chosen trustee as snooessor to John
Oliver whose term had expired. School
opened on Monday morning,Mies MoNair
being the teacher.

McArthur was again chosen trustee and
Alex Grant was eleoted to complete
term of 1 year owing to deosaee.of Ates.
McDonald. $2.25 per cord was Jesse
Walbee's contract for 15 cords of wood

In Collingwood a by-law providing
for a license fee of $2,500 was oarried by
a majority of 170, and in Shelborne the
proposal to raise hotel licenses to $400

In Owen Sound, though there was no
voting on Local Option, yet the lax en-
forcement of "the ny law, caused Local
Option to be s, live issue. The result of
the voting wee to return Mayor Ken-
nedy by a majority of 176. Only two
Local Optionist were elected as a member
of the Owen Sound Council..
The by-law to raise the liquor license
in Alliston wee earried by 174 to 118.
