Horticultural Society has
a "Buzzing" good time.
Seaforth and District
Horticultural Society wel-
comed Paul Kelly, Research
and Apiary Manager, Uni-
versity of Guelph. Paul
gave a fabulous presenta-
tion on the bee research
that is done at the univer-
sity, focusing on genetics,
behaviour and parasitic
mites of honey bees. Bees
play a very important role
in the pollination of fruits
and vegetables and the
declining population in bee
colonies is raising much
concern. Paul encouraged
everyone to help by plant-
ing flowers, trees and
shrubs that attract bees,
allow your land to natural-
ize, avoid spraying, eat
locally produced honey
and support bee research.
With donations given in
memory of Mary MacLeod,
lifetime horticultural mem-
ber, Seaforth Horticultural
Society installed Vegetable
Trugs (garden boxes) at Sea -
forth Manor and Maplewood
Manor this spring. The resi-
dents were super excited to
have an area where they
could plant a variety of
plants and have thoroughly
enjoyed watching their gar-
dens grow. Thank you to all
those that contributed to this
project.
Ciderfest is just around
the corner, Sunday, Septem-
ber 27th. This year our Soci-
ety will be selling a variety of
Tulip, Daffodil and Camma-
sia bulbs. Be sure to check
out our booth when visiting
Ciderfest. Your support
helps to beautify our
community.

on Wednesday, October 14th
at 7:30pm, Northside United
Church, with guest speaker
Ron Rossini, "Horrorcul-
ture': Everyone Welcome !!
