After a married couple from Lucan,
Ont. were approached by Sobeys to see
if they wanted to potentially buy a gro-
cery store, after hearing it was in Sea -
forth, they both said, "Why wouldn't
we?"
MJ and Kevin Baer, who also owned
and operated a Foodland franchise in
Lucan, had a week to make the decision
to take ownership of Seaforth's only gro-
cery store built two years ago this
December. The new move made sense
said the couple, they have nothing but
good things to say about the previous
store they sold, but they stated they
wanted something more modern.
"We always talked about going
somewhere different, but there were

three things on our list that had to be
accomplished,' said the owner MJ.
"The things on our list had to be geo-
graphically close to our daughter and
her family because we have a grand-
son, newer store and it had to be some-
thing Kevin could come on board and
work with me."
On September 12, the Baer's decided
to give back to the new community they
have recently become a part of, they
sparked up the BBQ and handed out
food, beverages and sweets free of
charge.
Kevin, who previously sold automo-
tive parts for 30 years, said the turnout
was "spectacular" and more than 300
residents from the area made an
appearance during the three hours.
"If all goes well, we plan on staying
here until we retire," MJ said.
