Human vs Dog
Shaun Gregory As my dog, Casper lays
prawled out on the
arpet, (which I don't
allow her to do), this four -
legged creature has not a
care in the world. So I
observe her.
Fur fully white except the
large black patch over her
one eye, similar to the pooch
off of the Little Rascals, she
just continues to sleep and
snore like a congested
human.
I must have missed the
dog entrance when god
was choosing what specific
organism one shall be,
instead I'm stuck here
reading this spectacular
bill that I've received in
the mail telling me I owe
$500 for my college
tuition, which I have 20
days to pay in full, or it will
go against my credit. To
top it off, I have a $200
phone bill, followed by an
empty fridge. I guess it's
time to throw some shoes
on and head over to the
grocery store, these kids
are not going to feed
themselves.
That ladies and gentleman
is how you spend two weeks'
worth of pay in a matter of an
hour. While all this is hap-
pening my dog Casper
dreams about bones and
kitchen scraps.
Two totally different
worlds between a human
and K9, followed by an
extended list of priorities,
that couldn't be more
different.

Being a nine to five
employee, my main con-
cerns are making sure my
family is fed, clothed and
satisfied.
And when those necessi-
ties are dealt with, at every
single possible chance I'm
looking to advance in
employment; as is everyone
in the working world.
None of those anxieties
have meaning or are of sig-
nificance for Casper. All
she wants is a rub behind
the ears and if it's not too
much to finish the job, a
bowl of chow would be
appreciated. Imagine that,
meals prepared, constant
back rubs and the option to
sleep in.
I know it may appear as if
I'm complaining,
but sometimes life is over-
whelming and to make it a lit-
tle bit less nerve-wracking it
seems like a hell of an idea to
occasionally wish to be a dog.
One day that's all I ask,
nothing but 24 hours. In
addition, if the offer is availa-
ble the preferred breed I'm
shooting for is some sort of
lap dog that has expensive
taste.
To be specific a bowl of
steak with sushi for meals
will suit me fine. Back to
reality, debts are like buses,
they arrive and depart every
15 minutes. The only thing
we can do as humans is take
out our wallets and pay
them. If day dreaming of
switching places with your
pup makes it easier, then
dream away.
letter to the editor
Dear Editor,
Any one in the area under-
stand moto cross? I hear they
have made a sport out of that
activity. Another might be
skateboarding. Not quite as
dangerous but same type of
skill is needed and physical
aptitude required. I com-
mend the young people who
are trying to get a skate park
up and running in Seaforth.
It has always been an issue
for the young in Seaforth to
get a program or facility up
and running and I don't
understand why. Is it
because the town is geared
more to the senior
population? Which when
you stop and think about it,
we don't come and go, we
just eventually go. We always
got shut down by the old
adage of, "The cost of insur-
ance would kill us': Listowel
has a skate park!
There are not enough ven-
ues in town that the young-
sters can utilize. If you don't
do the hockey and other stuff,
what's left? It is like pulling
teeth to get Huron East to help
the young have a place to go
and entertain themselves. Are
you worried about drugs,
alcohol, violence? I think they
get enough of that at school.
Of course, there are going to
be a few blips on the radar,
nothing ever runs smooth.
The ones that will use this
park will do just that, use it,
not vandalize it! Other, not so
good souls will try and do
that.
A dog park was allotted
space. Do animals come before
people? I think the guys and
gals need to use up their excess
energy and it would be nicer if
it were doing something that is
fun and legal as opposed to the
opposite and doing it on the
roads and sidewalks.
Most of these kids have jobs.
They are proving a level of
responsibility in their lives as
young as they are and this is a
sport, you may not understand
it, that they practice, play at
constantly and love it. This is a
generation of our society that
some can't wrap their minds
around but here they are! It
sure beats sitting at home just
using your thumbs playing on
line with strangers! The more
youngsters with out door activ-
ities the better, makes for a
more well rounded individual.
Those are just my thoughts on
the subject.
