Stolen Seaforth truck found torched
Shaun Gregory

Burning the evidence is a
common move among crim-
inals. The owner of a 2003
white Chevrolet Silverado is
facing this reality after their
truck was stolen and found
"completely destroyed" by
arson.
On September 3, some-
time in the late hours of the
night the vehicle was stolen
from Seaforth on Coleman
Street. The alleged culprits
entered the unlocked auto-
mobile and through a search
located the ignition key,
which was left inside a cup
holder.
Police say numerous
tools were also stolen
inside the truck's cab,
including two grey and red
Porter -Cable power drills
and a small blue pressure
washer.
On September 9, Perth
OPP officers located the
truck at approximately 6 a.m.
between Sebringville and
Fullarton as the West Perth
Fire had extinguished the
blaze.
After further investigation
the authorities believe the
burgundy box topper had
been detached prior to the
fire.
Currently the investiga-
tion is on-going. Any per-
son with information
regarding this incident
should immediately con-
tact Huron OPP at 1-888-

Everyone from Huron
East is urged to create
economic development
by giving ideas
Shaun Gregory

Before a council meeting
ended on Sept 8, Jan Hawley,
Huron East's economic
development officer, invited
council and everyone from
Huron East to take part in a
strategic planning process.
The plan came with a pam-
phlet handed out by Hawley,
outlining how this poten-
tially will attract economic
development. On September
14 at Seaforth's Royal Cana-
dian Legion from 7-9.30
p.m., the strategic planning
committee will bring
together the information
gathered at the focus groups.
Hawley explained this pro-
cess is conducted in three
levels.
"We are doing this collec-
tively as a county, working
together but also independ-
ent," Hawley mentioned at
Seaforth's historic town hall.
"It gives us the opportunity
to exchange ideas."
The economic officer said
that all of the nine municipali-
ties in the region are also par-
taking in the project all in
roughly the same time period.
Huron East Mayor, Bernie
MacLellan was asked his
take on the matter by Hawley
and he said this might shine
light on the municipality to
areas that would not have
been known otherwise.
In Morris-Turnberry they
don't even have an urban
centre and they've got 150

The summer is gone and
the leaves are dropping, on
the verge of making its way
to almost two centuries is
the 170th Seaforth Fall Fair.
With a wide variety of
activities for all ages, president
of the Seaforth Agricultural
Society, Lyle Haney said there's
something for everybody.
He was asked how many
years he has been involved with
the event, "you don't even want
to know how many years, it's
been a long time" Haney said.
businesses and not all small
businesses," he said.
"They were actually quite
surprised with that, their
own council didn't realize
that, this is going to bring
some information out and it
may change the thought pro-
cess of how we actually mar-
ket ourselves as a county."
Hawley said at the end of
council that this "is not always
about job creation," neverthe-
less it's also about activities. If
the youth who are petitioning
for a skate park in Seaforth are
interested this would be the
opportunity to have their idea
heard she said. This calculated
planning Will take a few months
to complete and she expects
the next meeting for the focus
group on September 16.
This marks Haney's 40th
year with the fair after first
participating as Jr. farmer
representative.
The festivities begin at the
Seaforth Agricultural Society
at 9 a.m. on September 17
and the last day concludes
on September 20.
