A total project cost of $656,000
for the change -up of all street-
lights in the entire municipality
of Huron East is close to being
finished.
Barry Mills, public works
manager for Huron East, indi-
cated that the large develop-
ment is 75 per cent complete. At
this time, the existing lights that
are high-pressure sodium and
the small amount of mercury
vapor lamps will be converted to
light -emitting diodes (LED). The
project that launched at the
beginning of this year is what
Mills refers to as "better lighting"
and it was something that is
essential for the municipality.
"There were incentives put out
by the Ontario Power Associa-
tion to help off -set the costs of
installing the LED lights, by hav-
ing a return on our investment
for about five years," Mills said.
The rebate given back to
Huron East by the OPA is some-
where in the range of $90,000
Mills explained in an interview
last Wednesday.
"It's an up -grade to the com-
munity, as well as bringing
energy efficiency into the bigger
picture," he said. "We're trying to
be energy conscious."
Currently Mills mentioned
that there are no other projects
underway and the all the lights
will be finished by this year.
