The Ontario Ministry of
Health and Long -Term Care
will donate a breath of
fresher air to the Seaforth
Community Hospital.
The Health Infrastructure
Renewal Fund (HIRF) is a
project approval process,
which distributes infrastruc-
ture renewal grants. This
year's grant awarded
$194,000 to Seaforth's hospi-
tal. The lump sums primary
purpose is for the HVAC
replacement/air-handling
system.
"Clean air is required
for people to stay healthy,
it's also for our staff, we
need to have good air
movement in the building
to make sure the air is
replaced regularly with
fresh air," Anne Campbell,
site administrator for the
Seaforth hospital, stated
in an interview.
Campbell admires these
annual donations and she
considers this a great oppor-
tunity to maintain the sys-
tems in the hospital. She also
mentioned these repairs
have the potential to
increase health care services
in the area.
"Health care is very
expensive in general. I
think when you look at
data and stats a lot of
money is spent on health-
care," she said. "When we
get those funds it makes it
a lot easier to deliver
health care, every dollar
you are competing to
where you are going to
spend it. It's great you get
an extra pot of money you
can spend on, keeping the
building sound."
The HIRF is also provid-
ing the Clinton hospital
with more than $142,000,
St. Mary's with $81,000 and
Stratford will receive
approximately $526,000.
Clinton and St. Mary's are
the other two hospitals
that will also be investing
in the HVAC replacement
system.
Campbell, who in addi-
tion is the vice president
of the Partnerships &
Patient Experience for
Huron Perth Healthcare
Alliance, explained the
importance of this project
and identified the process
of how this relates to eve-
ryday life.
"Every year the facility
management is doing main-
tenance just like on your
house. You have to take care
of your house over a five-
year period, they take a look
and say okay, what's going to
be needed over the next sev-
eral years based on the age
of the building."
Next year's funding
allotment for Seaforth's
grant is set for roughly
$95,000, Clinton is
expected to receive about
$62,000, St. Mary's will see
an increase by receiving
$369,000 and Stratford will
be given $281,000. Camp-
bell will know the details
of what exactly the funds
will be used for at a later
time.
