LIVE at the Livery to present
world-famous Canadian pianist
The LIVE at the Livery concert series
moves to a special location for the
Sunday, November 1 concert featuring
world-famous Canadian pianist Mike
Janzen, held in the beautiful St.
George's Anglican Church sanctuary.
Mike Janzen is a Manitoba -raised,
Toronto-based jazz pianist/composer
whose music is an engaging blend of
jazz, pop, classical, folk, Broadway
standards and well -crafted originals.
He will be playing with the Mike
Janzen Trio, adding musicians on bass
and drums; the trio has toured across
Canada and has been featured at the
Toronto International Jazz Festival, the
Wreckhouse International Festival and
Winnipeg International Jazz Festival.
The Mike Janzen Trio is a regular
national fixture on both CBC (Tonic)
and Jazz 91.1 and his song There's no
escaping spring recently won best
jazz/blues song of the year at the
GMA awards in Calgary. The trio's
albums have sold over 15,000 units
and at their latest sold out concert at
the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto,
Dennis Patterson (CBC engineer)
remarked, "that's one of the best
things I've ever heard in here:'
Janzen's playing has been
referred to as "the best kind of
unpredictable" (Josh Grossman,
artistic director, Toronto Jazz
Festival), "...a rare and infectious
gift" (Steve Bell, Juno award
winning singer/songwriter), and
led Jazz 91.1 host Terry McElligott
to remark, "Clearly, Mike is one to
watch in Canada's music sphere."
He released his first solo piano
record titled Carols in December
2012 and his vocal ability is heard
on the trio's latest single, Perfect
with You. His unique background
in disciplines of jazz, classical and
popular music combined with his
technical piano prowess led Geoff
Chapman (Wholenote) to exclaim,
"What's enthralling is Janzen's
writing, woven with wit and
inventiveness and his playing's
sheer exuberance."
The Mike Janzen Trio performs
on Sunday, November 1 at 8 p.m. at
St. George's Anglican Church, 87
North St. Tickets are $25 for general
seating and $20 for members of the
Livery. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. for
