Hunting season and events for November
It is hunting season
again in Huron
County, and as such -
all hikers need to be
aware that there are areas
of the trail that are closed
for that reason.
The Maitland Trail
exists because of the good
will of the landowners
who very generously
share their land with us.
Please be mindful and
respect the closed sec-
tions of the trail by stay-
ing off those sections.
During the deer hunting
season, many landowners
participate in deer hunt-
ing, or permit groups to
do so on their property.
The deer hunting sea-
son is divided between
bow hunting and con-
trolled gun hunting. Bow
hunting runs from Octo-
ber 1 to December 31,
except for two weeks
when only gun hunting is
permitted, November 2 to
November 8 and Novem-
ber 30 to December 6.
Hence, hikers must not
enter the Maitland Trail
where signs are posted.
These signs will be in posi-
tion before November 1
and will be at major entry
points of the trail. For
example, Riverline or Jen-
kins Corner. Some land-
owners may request clo-

sure for bow hunting also.
During other weeks of
the fall season, hikers
should use caution and
wear a highly visible jacket
and cap - bright orange is
suggested. We recommend
that you chose an alternate
section of trail, such as the
GART, Maitland Woods, the
Menesetung Trail or the
Millennium Trail. Morris
Tract, Stephenson Tract
and the Falls Reserve are
other suggestions.
Be also advised that the
waterfowl season is from
September 26 to Decem-
ber 30 on the Maitland
River only. These hunters
may be close to shore and
targeting waterfowl on
the river.
As we define more
closely the sections that
are to be closed, updates
will be posted and MTA
members will receive
updates. More informa-
tion can be found on the
Maitland Trail
Association website at
