The community of Sea -
forth and its surrounding
neighbours proved their fun-
draising spirits, by collecting
$20,000 in just three hours.
The 14th annual CKNX
Health Care Heroes Radio-
thon kicked off October 17 at
the Royal Canadian Legion
in Seaforth.
People enjoyed the festivi-
ties by performing the "Mac -
arena" amongst many other
dances, eating BBQ hot dogs
and listening to the radio for
constant donation updates.
Eleven hospitals in the
region participated in the
event. With an initial goal of
$50,000, Seaforth's goal was
almost half -way met by
noon. The whole charity was
broadcast on the three dif-
ferent radio stations and
participants were asked to
phone in to make a payment
towards the hospital.
President and CEO of the
Huron -Perth Health Care
Alliance Andrew Williams
was in attendance to show
support. He stated this event
has an impressive "track
record" and it has been an
inspiration for over a decade.
"This elevates the visibility
in the community, raises an
awful lot of money, so it's a
wonderful success and
based on the (sounds of all)
the laughter, it (was)," Wil-
liams said.
"Whether it's for the hos-
pital or for other charities in
need, it's second to none."
Donations can be
accepted until November of
this year and if the objective
is met before that time, the
medical equipment will be
purchased not too long after.
The money will be used as
what's specified as "essential
new medical equipment,"
and projected to cost
approximately $101,575.
Anne Campbell, vice pres-
ident of partnerships and
patient experience for Sea -
forth, refers to the equip-
ment required as an "identi-
fied need" and expects it to
be used to support a number
of smaller pieces of equip-
ment across three depart-
ments of the hospital.
"The communities are
proud of their hospitals,
healthcare is very very
important to them locally.
They want to do their best to
support their organization to
sustain the excellent health-
care reputation that we have.

In the front entrance of the
Legion, Ron Lavoie, chair of
the Seaforth Hospital Foun-
dation said this year's Radio-
thon is "tremendous" mostly
because the support from
the community.
"We have a lot of fantastic
local entertainment, just good
fun and the community comes
together, (there's) laughs, all

hospital; Lavoie said.
He concluded the conver-
sation to tell the public next
year's Radiothon will be
changed to the spring instead
of the usual fall undertaking,
which some believe will ben-
efit the cause.
