Oct. 19,1888
• The new bank barn of Mr.
Walter Haines, 4th con-
cession of Hullett, with
nearly all its contents of
livestock, implements
and produce, was con-
sumed by fi re on
Wednesday evening of
last week. The upsetting
of a lantern caused the fi
re.
• Mr. J.R. Murray has dis-
posed of the fi ne heavy
draught team that he pur-
chased near Dungannon
last fall, for the sum of
$650. Th ey were sold at
the Stratford Central Fair,
to a gentleman from Bos-
ton, whither they were
immediately shipped.
• A large number of seats
have already been
secured for the McGibeny
concert on next Monday
evening. A full house is
assured. We expect a
musical treat such as is
rarely listened to in a
town the size of Seaforth.

• Messrs. Collins and
Ketchen, who have
bought out the chopping
interest of the saw and
chopping mill in Bruce -
field, and who are now
busy remodeling their
machinery to insure per-
fect service, will be ready
to cater to the needs of
the public by the begin-
ning of the month.
IN Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johnston
and family have now got
settled on their farm in
Hullett, near Clinton,
which they recently pur-
chased from Mr. S.A.
Brown. Mr. And Mrs.
Johnston have been living
in Dakota a great many
years. Th eir nine children
were born in Dakota.
Four of the oldest of the
family remain in Dakota,
but fi ve came east with
their parents.
• Mr. Jacobi and family left
this week for the new
home they purchased
three miles east of Hen-
sall. During their short
stay here they have made
many friends who deeply
regret the removal of such
great neighbours. All will
unite in wishing Mr. and
Mrs. Jacobi in health,
happiness and
prosperity.

• Mr. William Hopper has
purchased the property
and handsome residence
of the late August Wankel
in Harpurhey and will
occupy and will occupy it
as soon as he has dis-
posed of his residence on
North Main Street.
■ Mr. Charles Regele fell on
Friday in his barn when
he tripped over a roller
tongue. He cracked his
arm and hurt his thumb.
• Mr. David Stephenson Jr.
held a successful sale
last week of his farm
stock and implements
and intends leaving the
farm to take over a gro-
cery business and gas
station he recently pur-
chased on the highway a
few miles north of
Mitchell. We wish him
success in his new
business.

• Mrs. Margaret Lamont
spent over two weeks
with her family, with Mr.
and Mrs. Norman
Lamont and family and
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Aus-
man and family, Galt;
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey
Lamont and family,
Delhi. Mr. Arnold
Lamont, Hamilton,
brought Mrs. Lamont
home on Friday evening.
• Charles B. Stewart, direc-
tor and general manager
of the Robert Simpson
Co. Ltd., has accepted the
post of honourary chair-
man of the Seaforth Com-
munity Hospital Building
Fund it was announced
by K. Bruce Mac -Millan,
campaign chairman.
■ Friends and neighbours
of Mr. and Mrs. Edward L.
Boyce, RR5 Seaforth,
gathered Friday night on
the occasion of the cou-
ple's 25th wedding anni-
versary. Th e couple were
feted at a party at Brod-
hagen Community
Centre.

■ New owners are set to
occupy the former Gene-
sco Plant after Oct. 15 and
will begin producing pre-
cision springs for the
automotive industry by
the end of the year. Town
Council was told that
negotiations went well for
the purchase of the

Genesco facility and
Wallbank Springs would
start up its third active
manufacturing facility in
Seaforth.
Egmondville's Betty
MacLean is one of 26
Ontario residents hon-
oured in Toronto with a
Heart of Gold Award. Th e
award was sponsored by
Air Canada in conjunc-
tion with the Ontario
Community Newspapers
Association. Mr. MacLean
received a plaque and
two tickets to any Air
Canada destination in the
world.
Murray Cardiff is chosen as
the Huron -Bruce nominee
for the Progressive Con-
servative party. Defence
Minister Perrin Beatty was
guest speaker at the PC
meeting held at the Luc -
know Community Centre.
About 400 people attended
the meeting. Cardiff was
chosen by acclamation.
