TOU Go Further 9 9 8 a 8 Recognizing the ratepayers of Seaforth Shaun Gregory Huron Expositor o ¢ A plan to give back to rate- payers of Seaforth is in effect, thanks to the Huron East/ a t Seaforth community Devel- opment Trust funding. With a joint venture and partnership with the Sea - forth Fire Department the organization is offering car- bon monoxide/smoke detectors to families within the limits of Seaforth. Cur- rently there are 50 units to be given away to demonstrate their consideration, which on average have a 7-10 year lifespan. This money became available after HE/ SCDT sold the Public Utility Commission. "If people need it, look at you your expiry date and come get one," said HE/ SCDT chairperson, Lin Steffler. "We want people to be safe." According to the Ontario Associations of Fire Chiefs, the "silent killer" takes about 50 lives each year in Canada, as well as 11 on average in Ontario. g 1 9 (((slrlUSXM))) Available in most new Ford vehicles with 6 -month pre -paid subscription. 5 Carbon monoxide comes from the following carbon based fuels: • Wood • Propane • Natural Gas • Heating Oil • Coal • Kerosene • Charcoal • Gasoline If you have items that could possible produce car- bon monoxide, since last year Ontario has taken a fur- ther step to keeping families and homes in Ontario safe. In addition, Carbon monox- ide alarms are now manda- tory in all residential homes. To obtain a detector they will be available October 8 during an open house at the Seaforth Fire Hall. All that's required is proof that you live in Seaforth. Steffler said she regrets that other people from such places like Hapurhey and other surrounding areas do not meet the requirements to receive a free detector. In the future she mentioned the organization plans to make this program an annual event. It's here in our community. Please make a difference by volunteering. c,,, Multiple Sclerosis Soocietto Society of Canada Societe e canadienne de la sclerose en plaques 1-800-268-7582 www.mssociety.ca
