Victoria
Park update
Shaun Gregory
Huron Expositor
On November 17, Maureen Agar,
the person solely responsible for the
launching of a $20,000 revamping pro-
ject at Victoria Park, provided council
with an update on the venture.
Being the director of the Huron
East/Seaforth Community Devel-
opment Trust, Agar approached
the organization with a specific
idea to spruce up the old recrea-
tional area.
"I went to the trust and said if I
volunteer to do the coordination
will we put some more money into
do this stuff? And they agreed," said
Agar outside the council chambers.
She mentioned to the Expositor
that this was one of those projects
that needed to be spearheaded by
an unpaid helper. Agar also indi-
cated that a donation from the fam-
ily of Barb Box of $5,000 was a more
than a generous contribution,
which helped substantially.
"You know (what) when there is
not enough money for the munici-
pality, something's (got to go to)
the bottom of the list," she said.
Currently the concert stage has
been fully painted and mulch has
been added to all the trees. Flowers
and shrubs have also been planted
along with several other landscap-
ing initiatives that are slated for the
future. There have been a few set-
backs due to the weather, but Agar
is certain that will not have an
affect on the finished product.
"I like the community, there are
people that do things and there's
volunteers that do a lot more;" con-
cluded Agar.
