It was May 28, 2004 and
the Tampa Bay Lightning
were competing in the infa-
mous Stanley Cup champi-
onship against the Calgary
Flames. The year the Light-
ning were showered in
champagne, Scott Driscoll
considers to be among his
most memorable moments
in hockey.

in Seaforth was recognized

clear shiny award. This is the
47 -year old's 1500th regular
season game being a lines-
man. Currently the oldest
active player in the NHL at
43 years of age, Jaromir Jagr,
recently joined the 1500
game club as well. The
Czechoslovakian is 35 points
away from beating the all-
time point record held by
'Mr. Hockey; Gordie Howe.
Back in the 70's and early
80's, this was a feat many
thought was one an impossi-
ble undertaking.
Even though Driscoll has
never hoisted the cup as a
hockey champion like
Howe or Jagr, he's sure
skated on the same ice, ref-
ereeing those crucial
standoffs that molded
young stars into Cup leg-
ends. Jagr collected his sec-
ond back-to-back champi-
onship with the Pittsburgh
Penguins in 1992 and a
year later, the former Sea -
forth Centenaire was
appearing in his first lines-
man gig. Dressed in a black
and white stripped long -
sleeve and helmet, this is
what is regarded as his
rookie -year. Now, 25 years
later and he's still an offi-
cial for one of the best
hockey leagues in the
world. Driscoll's participa-
tion in his 1500th game
was last Saturday (Novem-
ber 14th) at the First Nia-
gara Center. The Buffalo
Sabres hosted the San Jose
Sharks. Several outlets in
the realm of social media
noticed the decades of his
referee involvement after
the game.
"Congratulations to lines-
man Scott Driscoll who
worked his 1500th @NHL
game tonight," was a text on
the Sabres Twitter page.
The Sharks ended up
edging the Sabres 2-1 in
overtime with a goal by
left-winger Patrick
Marleau.
Driscoll has refereed
165 playoff games to date
and participated in two
Stanley Cups. If anybody
