HomeMy WebLinkAboutHuron Expositor, 2015-11-18, Page 3Wednesday, November 18, 2015 • Huron Expositor 3 Renowned Canadian band will be jamming in Goderich this month Shaun Gregory Huron Expositor The Livery in Goderich is hosting a trio of veteran touring musicians, who will be armed with a guitar, banjo and fiddle. The nationally -renowned band the East Pointers con- veys a blend of modern mainstream with some tra- ditional Celtic music, which is a mixture originally evolved from folk tunes. The band is familiar with the har- monious scene and they've been rewarded for their suc- cess numerous times. Being acknowledged as a top -10 single on CBC Radio 2, and also collaborating with Ser- ena Ryder and Gordon Lightfoot. Already this year they've received the Show- case PEI 2015 Artist of the Year award and managed to collect the 2015 Music P.E.I. New Artist of the Year and Roots Traditional Recording of the Year awards, as well as nominations for Traditional Instrumental Recording of the Year at the 2015 East Coast Music Awards. "We're just hoping to play as much as we can over the next few years and hopefully people are liking what we're playing," said the guitarist of the band, Jake Charron in a recent phone interview. "A lot of times, people think of it as music for an older generation but we're hoping to introduce a whole new generation of listeners." The East Pointers have been recognized for a lot of success after only being an official band for the last year and a half. The three -some have known each other for approximately six years and the love for the same malady has brought the Canadian group together. "We all just loved playing this type of music. We crossed paths along the road, in the Canadian music scene you always end up running into the same set of people on the way," he said. "We just clicked and decided to start a band." Currently the touring band mates will be on a six- month long road trip travel- ling across Canada, making their way to the UK and end- ing the international journey To the left Kirsten McIntosh from Huron Centennial School is currently involved with the group called Character Counts. A special charity that donates all proceeds to the Seaforth and District Food Bank. This year they gathered 593 items. in Australia, a voyage that's expected to last until next April. The East Pointers perform on Saturday November 21 at 8 pm at the Livery Theatre, 35 South St. Tickets are $25 for general seating, and $20 for members of the Livery.
