As the times change golfing
is attracting a newer younger
breed of athletes; tell that to
90 -year-old Olave Little.
Little has been enjoying the
game for three decades. She
said her favorite golfers are
Rickie Fowler and RoryMcllroy
who are both 26 years of age.
That makes her roughly three -
times older than these young
men. But age plays no factor in
the senior's love for the game.
Today she played a ritual game
of golf between three genera-
tions including Little's son and
grandson, a game that usually
takes place close to her birth-
day, which is November 9. It
was an unusuallywarm day on
November 4 to swing the clubs
at the Seaforth Golf & Country
Club, being it was 21 degrees,
less than two months before
Christmas.
"I love golfing outside, if
it's good weather next year
I'll be at it again," Little said
after playing nine -holes.
Little didn't mention her
score, laughing she said, "I
don't tell people my score."
Her grandson Jeff Little, 32,
said she played great and
beat him on two holes.

"She's ninety -years old and
she almost birdied two holes
out of nine," Jeff said in the
front of the Expositor office.
Little stated that she started
playing fairly late in life after
deciding to purchase a second-
hand pair of clubs in the 80s.
"Grandma taught me how
to golf 30 years ago on the
front lawn in Winthrop, so it's
nice (to) come back here and
hit the clubs with her" Jeff said.
Little's son Neil said watch-
ing his mother in golf mode
inspires him to keep golfing
and live life to the fullest.
"It gives me hope that I
might be around when I'm
90;' Neil added.
Experienced golf entrepre-
neur, Carolanne Doig from the
Seaforth Golf & Country Club
recalls Little always taking
pleasure in golf and jokingly
said she remembers Little was
not adverse to playing in "ter-
rible weather." Doig recognizes
Little's passion for golf at such
a late time in life and said the
sport can keep someone of
that age in good shape.
"I think it justifies the old
adage that golf is good for
your health, if you play golf
and you get out there and
don't worry about all the
other things that are going on.
Some people plump them-
selves in front of the TV, (this)
is a great way to get out and
spend a few hours," Doig said.
