Former Seaforth teacher recognized
for excellence in volunteering
The Governor
General of
Canada presented a
past Seaforth
District High School
teacher with an elite
award given to only
30 Canadians across
the country

His Excellency the Right
Honourable David Johnston,
Governor General of Can-
ada, presented the Governor
General's Caring Canadian
Award to 30 volunteers from
various sectors of society, on
Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at
10:30 a.m., during a cere-
mony at the Residence of the
Governor General at the Cit-
adelle of Quebec.
Doug Procter, former sci-
ence teacher at Seaforth Dis-
trict High School, was one of
the recipients from across
Canada. He was nominated
by the Men's PROBUS Club
of Grand Bend where he
now resides and served as
secretary of the club for the
past 11 years. His other com-
munity volunteering that
was considered in the award
included his coaching and
involvement in extracurricu-
lar activities at S.D.H.S., serv-
ing as a team captain with
the Grand Bend and Area
Horticultural Society and
sharing his love of music
with others through his work
with the Huron Shores
United Church Choir and
the Seaforth Harmony Kings
barbershop chorus.
Doug and his wife Debbie
travelled to Quebec City to
accept the award.

Canadian Award recognizes
living Canadians and per-
manent residents who have
made a significant, sus-
tained, unpaid contribution
to their community, in
Canada or abroad. Often

these individuals volunteer
their time and efforts to help
their fellow citizens. The
award also brings to light the
example set by volunteers,
