After numerous cash with-
drawals from town to town,
an alleged thief has racked
up a $14,000 bill from a score
he managed to pull off at
Johnny's Sub and Sandwich
Cafe in broad daylight.
The owner of the sandwich
shop, John Hunt, said it was a
normal afternoon on October
26, it was just before 1 p.m.,
which is usually when the
store is the busiest. He
received a call from the owner
of Blooms N Rooms that a
'strange' man had been
caught in the back area of
their business. Hunt walked in
his back office and noticed
what he refers to as a night
bag had been disturbed. A bag
that usually contained his
wallet, iPad, cheque book,
deposit book and other mis-
cellaneous papers.
"It was open, my wallet
was gone, iPad was gone,
most would have took the
whole bag and split. He
rooted through and took
what he wanted, explained
Hunt near the spot where
the theft occurred.
Hunt could not figure out
why the thief did not take his
wife's purse that was in
reaching distance from his
bag. After speaking with the
OPP in Mitchell, Hunt said it
would be safe to say the man
battled addictions, because
of how early in the day and
the specific stealing patterns
the man implemented.
"The officers told me he
was a tweaker because he
did things so recklessly, care
free," Hunt said.
"He's either on meth or
he's on crack. He could
(even) be on morphine."
The authorities provided a
picture of the alleged thief to
Hunt and judging by his
unhealthy looking complex-
ion Hunt believes the man is
definitely on drugs. Crystal
meth users become obses-
sive with picking at the skin,
which results with several
sores on their faces. The sus-
pect had several cuts and
sores on his face.
The police also informed
Hunt that the bandit was
withdrawing large amounts
of money from his credit

cards. After maxing the
accounts, the thief would
deposit envelops with no
money in them and then
take the money out soon
after. This is an illegal
maneuver thieves do to
receive more funds. The
bank believes the money is
in the account, but when
they check the package the
next day there is no money
in the envelopes.
"He's standing there talking
to the bank tellers at the coun-
ter, he called the banks to ask
how much he could get out a
day, like how brazen is that,"
Hunt commented.
Along with credit cards the
back door assailant recently
purchased gas and a phone.
Most of the strip of busi-
nesses on Main Street in Sea -
forth has felt the wrath or the
presence of the alleged robber
including Madica Tan Lines,
Tony Arts Financial Group
and Blooms 'N Rooms.
According to the Seaforth BIA
the burglar entered through
the back of the businesses and
if he was found he would
apologize and say he made a
mistake and is looking for the
business next door. Hunt is
content with police finding
him because he said if he
would have caught the perpe-
trator "it would have been a
different story."
All the money lost will be
covered by Hunt's insurance
company, the thing that is
the most difficult part of this
crime is that he does not
have identification since it
was all in his wallet.
Huron County OPP media
relations officer, Jamie Stan-
ley said the suspect is
described as being a white
male in his late 20's, between
5'8" to 5'11'; with a thin build

and short brown hair. He
was also described as having
some scruffy looking facial
hair.
"We would ask shop keep-
ers to keep rear doors locked
at all times and to keep valu-
ables out of sight in a secure
hiding spot. We also encour-
age homeowners to keep
doors locked at all times and
to keep valuables out of sight
in a safe and secure spot,"
Stanley said.
