The week Seaforth and District hears about Victorian Glenyce Kelly Seaforth Horticultural Society Seaforth and District Horticultural Society met on Wednesday, May 13th and had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Kelly Olson from the University of Western Ontario speak on "Victorian Gardens". Thank you to those who came out to support us at our Annual Plant and Bake Sale on Saturday, May 9th. A huge success. Proceeds from the sale will help with purchasing flowers and horticultural projects that will be planted throughout our town. Annual Bus Trip - on Wednesday July 8, we will be visiting the Parkwood National Historic Site in Oshawa - a 53 room also involves socializing with the physicians and gaining a sense of the community. At the end of the week the students meet with the Assistant Dean Rural & Regional Community Engagement for awrap-up dis- cussion of their experiences. "One of the great things about Discovery Week is that the students have no idea what to expect," says Dr. Erin Heisz. "They could be assigned to the ER for the day or they could be doing house visits!' Dr. Heisz was a Discovery Week student herself, returning to the HPHA for part of her clerkship and residency before deciding to settle in Stratford. "It's extremely rewarding to be able to teach these students aboutyourjob, oryour specialty or your interests;' she remarks. As part of this year's Discov- eryWeekactivities, the students will spend time in HPHA's Emergency Departments, Ambulatory Care clinics and Operating Rooms, and work at doctors' offices, in order to gain a better understanding of the medical needs of Huron -Perth residents. A special clinical skills day has also been arranged where students will learn and practice skills they will use in their future careers. Skills such as casting, suturing, mechani- cal ventilation, infant assess- ment and resuscitation, psychi- atric assessment and health and safety in the workplace will be taught by HPHA Physicians and Allied Health team mem- bers. Social activities for the Horticultural Society Gardens mansion with 12 acres of heritage gardens. There will also be a tour of a pri- vate garden in Brampton, as well as the usual stops for lunch and supper (included in cost). Cost is $90 for members, or $100 for non-members which includes membership, (membership required for insurance regulations). For full details, contact Heather McLean (519 527- 1832). All are welcome to join our tour.
