Huron East Centenaires vow to return "stronger than ever" next season Marco Vigliotti Huron Expositor After falling short in its quest to bring a championship to town this year, man- agement of the Huron East Centenaires took to social media to reaffirm the team's commitment to Seaforth and thank its organizers, players and fans. "Thank you to all my players for their commitment and work ethic through- out the season, to the executive for all the amazing work needed to put this thing together," Tim McNaughton, gen- eral manager of the senior's men hockey team, said in a Twitter post on March 1. "And of course (thanks) to the amazing fans for all the support, with- out you were nothing." McNaughton also said he was "excited" to declare hockey "alive and well in Seaforth," and promised that the Centenaires would be back in Septem- ber "stronger than ever." The Centenaires quest for the 2015 WOAA 'A' championship crown came to an end last month when they fell 8-7 to Lucknow Lancers in a heartbreaking game on Feb. 28. Huron East needed to win the game, their last of the round robin stage, to advance to the second round of the A' playoffs. Under the league's playoff format, the Centenaires played five other teams once each in-group play. The four teams with the most points advance to the next round. The defeat to Lucknow ended a strong postseason push that saw Huron East defeat Shelburne and Ripley but also lose to Milverton and Shallow Lake. Despite the setback, the team remained optimistic about its future, with comments on its Twitter account expressing enthusi- asm about the next season. "Here is the promise. We have a great group of guys who love and respect this town," read a Feb. 28 post from the team's account. "We have built a family. We will be back." The team also retweeted several posi- tive posts from volunteers and organizers commenting on how greatly they enjoyed assisting the team and expressing opti- mism about its future in Seaforth. "The most fun I have ever had volun- teering with a group has been with the Cents. Awesome year, fellas," read a Twitter post from Melody Hodgson, who also serves as chairwoman of Sea - forth Business Improvement Area. The recently introduced WOAA play- off format allows all league teams to compete in the post -season for one of two different championships. The league, which has six teams in the South Division and eight in the North Division, is essentially split into two dif- ferent conferences for the playoffs based on overall regular season records. The top four teams from the North and the top four teams from the South compete in the AA' play-offs, while the Centenaires and other lower ranked opponents compete in the 'A' playoffs.
