Centering the concert on love songs encompasses an expansive range of styles from lullabies to classical, said Deborah Bailey, the Chorus' director, who explains that the event will include "a little bit of everything." "We make a great sound - 60 singers, four part harmonies, sometimes more. We love what we do and that comes through," she said in an interview. "We get to indulge our love of making music and it's for a good cause." The concert at Northside starts at 7:30 p.m. and will be followed a dessert reception. According to Bailey, the Chorus absorbs all costs incurred in pro- moting the events, such as pur- chasing flyers, allowing all money donated at the concerts to go directly to the shelter. Since the beginning of the concert series five to six years ago, the Cho- rus has managed to raise "well over $15,000" for the shelter, she said. The Goderich-based facility, Bai- ley adds, provides a tremendously valuable service for local women and children by offering an emer- gency housing solution, as well as around the clock pick-up service. "They provide counselling, emergency shelter and longer-term housing for women and children in need," she said of the shelter. "They have a 24-hour crisis line, they will pick someone up in the middle of the night if need be." The funding provides a much- needed financial injection for the shelter, which Bailey said often grapples with a deluge of people accessing its services. It's "not uncommon" for it to be "beyond capacity with women and children in dire need," she explained, adding that those using the facility see it as a last resort. "If women had any other place to go, they would go," Bailey said. "It's their last resort and thank good- ness they have someplace to go." Another concert by the group in support of the shelter will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church in Goderich on June 17. It will also begin at 7:30 p.m. As well, the Goderich concert is a freewill offering event. .6541-'41404.1-'+ 1-P.A 71 HURON PERTH HEALTHCARE A!LI ANCE C' nrxi I'uHic FI r l c. tlap klirri_na1 HirpuI S Cdr CorJnualit '_+mmttilrrltirrrenl HKIpr.,I . 11V - Exceptional People, Exceptional Care!
