Local family tours Scotland
Ruth Campbell
Winthrop correspondent
We are getting some nice
spring weather - crops are
being sown, lawns are being
mowed -spring is here.
At Cavan United Church
on Sunday the Christ candle
was lit by Wendy Campbell.
Minister Mary Fletcher told
the children's story about
communicating with ani-
mals - crows love peanuts
and know when she is going
to feed them. They have
brought her gifts - screws,
washers, etc. Her message
was titled "Catch the Spirit."
Pentecost - Pente means
five. Fifty days after the cru-
cifixion the spirit descends
on us and into our hearts.
Barbara Storey and two
sisters flew from Toronto to
Glasgow, Scotland for a 10
day trip. They stayed in
Glasgow but visited other
centers. They visited the cas-
tle in Edinburg, one day they
walked 14 km., went to the
Highland games in Gourock
- hammer toss, shot put,
caper toss, stone throw (30
lbs.), bagpipe competition,
highland dancing, etc. They
rented a car and did some
sightseeing of the farmland
with sheep and cattle. The
roads are narrow and if you
went off the road you would
hit a stone fence. Not pretty.
They toured the east coast
which is mainly fishing
towns. They also visited a
Green Welly shop which is a
rubber boot shop. Boots are
called wellies. All in all it was
an enjoyable trip.
Food for Thought
Cherish all the happy
moments, they make a fine
cushion for when you get
older.
