Seaforth Summerfest Carnival
what a good old time
Shaun Gregory
Last Friday was a huge
accomplishment for
the town of Seaforth.
Hundreds came to enjoy the
festivities and all the great-
ness tied into the Seaforth
Summerfest Carnival. It did
not seem as if this day was
going to be all that special.
Since the Ontario Tornado
Watch website, Facebook
and Twitter called for a seri-
ous tornado warning earlier
in the week. The site stated
that they referred the storm
as the Phantom Monster
System because it was "really
strong, then vanished" and
at that present time it
became strong again. A pic-
ture displayed a legend with
the green parts meaning
those places would be out of
range of a tornado. The
orange and red meant those
locations had a higher
chance of a tornado. Goder-
ich was just out of the red,
while the coordinates placed
Seaforth dead center in the
storm. By the looks on the
children's faces during the
fabulous Seaforth Summer -
fest Carnival, the parents
and the entire town, you
could tell everyone was
thankful that storm did not
pay us a visit. At the begin-
ning, it did start to spray
some raindrops for a brief
moment, but they stopped
and the dark clouds bright-
ened just enough to enjoy
the day. The music played
loud from speakers with
high watts, while the kids
bounced in the air maze. Hot
dogs, sausages, cotton candy
and a ton more were availa-
ble for the food fans. Face
painting for the little ones
and mini -put for the golfers
were also available. One of
the most interesting things
for the youngsters had to be
the large lagoon with
numerous paddle boats
inside, driving up and down
in this huge man made water
contraption. The largest
activity that could be seen
from far was the 30 -foot rock
climbing mechanism, which
had line-ups pretty much
the whole night. The kids
were strapped in and the
main idea was to climb to
the top, all in hopes to reach
the red button. Off to the
side, a special time for the
sports fanatics as the kids
who represented several
businesses in town battled
for hours with numerous
intense road hockey games.
Shaun Gregory
This event really showed you
this town could put on an
amazing show for all ages.
Further more, I could not
stop to notice the amount of
pink T-shirts with the words
"Rallying 4 Rebecca," so
many parents and children
wore them with pride. That's
true admiration at its' finest.
The five-hour event may
have been a day filled with
overcast and slight gusts of
wind, no matter the weather
the town of Seaforth dis-
played heart and showed the
area, that we know how to
have a good old time. My
hat is off to all the people
and organizations that made
this event possible. Signing
off from the Seaforth Huron
Expositor office, Shaun
Gregory, AKA the 'New Guy:'
letter to the editor
Letter to the editor
Dear Editor,
Mr. Harper recently
attended the Calgary Stam-
pede. Whilst at the stampede,
Mr. Harper attempted to
inject another dose of fear
into Canadians by reminding
them of jihadist terrorism.
Canadians are already aware
of the horrendous, primal
atrocities inflicted on thou-
sands of innocent victims by
jihadists. With the majority
of Canadians now opposed to
the drastic measures con-
tained in Bill -051, Mr. Harper
appears to be desperate for
new material to further his
political career, since three of
the main themes in his politi-
cal platform, namely his mili-
taristic approach to the
Islamic State, Bill -051 and
the Canadian economy, are
swimming like leadened
ducks. There was no need for
Canadians to be reminded of
the gratuitous, barbaric deeds
of the jihadists, other than to
serve Mr. Harper's political
agenda.
Yours sincerely,
Jim Hollingworth. M.D.,
Goderich
