The small village of Hensall proved that to be true with the public unveiling of the splash pad on Thursday, June 25. Ryan Munn, secretary with the Hensall Kinsmen Club and co-chair of the splash pad committee, said the second phase of the splash pad was completed earlier last month. The total cost of the pro- ject was $165,000. Of that, $25,000 was con- tributed by the Kinsmen and Kinnette clubs of Hensall, $55,000 from an Ontario Tril- lium Foundation (OTF) grant and $5,000 through a dona- tion from Libro Credit Union. The rest came from local businesses and residents. "We are very happy as a club to see the community get behind us," Munn said. Munn said the Kinnette Club played a large role in helping the project be com- pleted with a balanced budget. He also praised the staff and council of the Municipality of Bluewater for their assistance. The idea for a splash pad in Hensall began with a meeting in the fall of 2012. Fundraising efforts began in August 2013 and the first phase of the project was completed in July 2014. The public unveiling included a BBQ and there were many local children enjoying the splash pad. "It improves the park for kids and parents. It's really nice to see kids playing together outside and not in front of a computer," Munn said.
