Saturdays are habitually
spent sleeping due to the
tiredness work people have
been put through during the
week.
Tell that to the 40 local res-
idents who arrived at 8 a.m.
to learn how to CrossFit
outside.
The brisk morning at
Egmondville Park featured
lessons from Level 1 CrossFit
trainer Kaleda Connell,
where she invited everybody
July 11 for a free training ses-
sion. The event included fit-
ness education involving
burpees, lunges and squats,
which Connell combined
into a partnered workout.
Males and females from the
ages of 20-65 years old made
an appearance to study what
Connell calls a "functional
movement performed at
high intensity."
"We borrow movements
from gymnastics, weightlift-
ing, track and field and we
mix them up and make a work
out from it," said Connell.
Connell, 26, who moved to
Seaforth from Palmerston
last year, said this outdoor
event was meant to bring the
neighborhood together.
"We actually create a
stronger community with
these kinds of group -style
workouts," said Connell.

not at this free of charge
occasion. Chartrand was
clothed in jogging pants and
a t -shirt, joined by his wife,
who were both geared up
and ready to train.
Chartrand said Connell
customizes people's pro-
grams based on their age
and abilities. Given that he
and Connell are neighbours,
he said this is something he
could see himself maybe try-
ing out in the future.
"I see the crew showing up
(at her house) at 5:30 a.m.
every morning, then there is
another crew that shows up at
six at night," said Chartrand.
Connell runs her own per-
sonal gym from out her garage
in Seaforth. Surrounded by
riding lawn mowers, couches
and tools, this place of fitness
is not a typical gym that most
people are accustomed to.
Most gyms are packed with
mirrors, weights and
machines, but not this gym.
"We don't use machines,
that's like saying swear
words when you say
machines," said Connell.

consultant, shares the gym
space with her significant
other and is looking into

moving her gym to a larger
location in the near future. The
top five runner-up for the "Wm
This Space" competition said
at the moment she is satisfied
with the current part-time gig
stationed at her home.
"Put a country girl into a
city and she's got no idea
how to use a regular gym,"
said Connell.
