The 127 km path meant for walkers, bikers and snowmo- bilers is in the midst of being created. The 1800s trail, which has been out of service for decades, is expected to bring people from far and wide to Huron County. But before all that, G2GRT repre- sentative Paul VanderMolen, said everyone needs to be on the same page so the process can run smoothly. "This is a great opportu- nity for us to reach out as an agricultural community and talk to these (trail) users about the coordinates grow- ing around them," said VanderMolen. "The edible beans and all the different crops we grow in this vibrant agricultural area as well as the livestock" Because the public trail intertwines through numer- ous counties with a span of 79 miles, several farmers have crops growing along property lines. With the absence of public activity, these farmers are worried about damages from people using this trail. VanderMolen added that there is a working group put together by the county. It includes local landowners, the Huron Fed- eration of Agriculture, G2GRT and the counties of both Huron and Perth. The problems with bio- hazards of poultry and other livestock have been dis- cussed at previous meetings and some of the councillors recognize this. The point the council and the GRG2T were trying to get across at the meeting is an improvement of relationships between everybody is necessary to keep the entire community satisfied in the development of the trail. "I think these concerns that the farmers have can definitely be worked -out with the trail people and the people using the trails," said Seaforth Ward councillor, Bob Fisher. "Let's sit down and talk, we're all mature adults, things can be ironed out" One of the main confu- sions people of the area are having is that a press release was given out by G2GRT and it declared that the trail is "open." VanderMolen said that statement was intended to mean the trail was "open for development."
