Lobb's private members
motion passed
A private member's bill
aimed at battling Alzhei-
mer's Disease and other
dementia -related conditions
was passed unanimously
earlier this month.
The motion was put for-
ward by Huron -Bruce MP
Ben Lobb and focuses on
strengthening measures to
prevent those conditions.
Lobb said he was pleased
that members of all parties
came together to support the
motion.
"I would like to thank
my colleagues from all
parties for their support."
said MP Lobb. "It's impor-
tant that we recognize and
stay focused on address-
ing the needs of individu-
als living with Alzheimer's
disease and other
dementias."
According to a media
release, the motion calls
for increasing education
and awareness to reduce
the stigma associated with
dementia. It aims to share
best practices between all
jurisdictions, while con-
tinuing to work in partner-
ship with relevant stake-
holders, including
families affected by
dementia.
Lobb said the motion will
encourage working rela-
tionships with interna-
tional partners and build
upon partnerships with
groups such as the Alzhei-
mer Society of Canada and
the Canadian Consortium
on Neurodegeneration in
Aging.
There is currently
approximately 45 million
people in the world living
with Alzheimers or another
dementia.
Roughly six to 15 per
cent of Canadians aged 65
years or older are living
with some form of demen-
tia with that figure
expected to double by
2031.
