Seaforth Public School rallies around student and family
Kathy Rivett
Special to the Expositor
The staff and students at Seaforth Public
School have been very busy over the past
couple of weeks organizing a variety of
fundraisers to help out a family in need. A
grade 2 SPS student, Rebecca Kipfer-
Pryce, was recently diagnosed with stage 4
cancer and has already begun her chemo-
therapy treatments at Children's Hospital
in London. Upon hearing the terrible
news, Seaforth staff and students immedi-
ately began thinking of ways that they
could help the Kipfer-Pryce family.
To kick off the "Team Rebecca" cam-
paign, the school held a "PINK" day in
Rebecca's honour last Monday where the
students were asked to wear pink to
school, and to bring in a donation in sup-
port of Rebecca. Pink ribbons were also
being sold in the school office, as well as at
the SPS fundraiser that was held at the
Clinton Raceway on Sunday, June 21.
Friends of Rebecca also made a variety of
"Team Rebecca" bookmarks, cupcakes
and rainbow loom bracelets that were for
sale during recesses last week.
Seaforth local, Becky Janmaat donated
ice cream that was sold a recent drama
night, as well as at the school BBQ that was
held on the last day of classes. All fund
raisers proved to be a huge success with
the SPS staff and students, and together
raised over $1600 for the Kipfer-Pryce
family.
SPS staff, students, families and friends
are also reaching out to the community in
order to help out with their fund raising
efforts. Family friends Julie Campbell and
Lisa Bennett -Jervis have ordered a num-
ber of pink t -shirts and bracelets sporting
the phrase "Rallying for Rebecca; which
will be for sale at Seaforth's Moonlight
Madness event on July 17. The SPS staff are
also hosting a pink themed golf tourna-
ment at the Seaforth Golf & Country Club
on Friday, August 21, and are planning a
BBQ fundraiser to be held at the Seaforth
Legion (date and time to be announced).
