Marco Vigliotti Huron Expositor A 52 -year-old is facing multiple charges after allegedly entering a Huron East home without per- mission on Feb. 12 to "warm up," Huron County OPP say. The man, who is from Huron East, has been charged with being unlaw- fully in a dwelling house and failing to comply with a probation order. He was taken into custody before released after a bail hear- ing in Goderich later in the day. In a media statement, the OPP said the man was located after officers were informed about a sup- posed hitchhiker entering a residence on Amberely Road in the north -end of the municipality. Police then converged on the scene and were able to set up a contain- ment of the residence. Shortly after 12:30 p.m., the man left the house and was promptly met by the officers. He was taken into cus- tody without incident after police said officers on the scene verified that the man did not have per- mission to be inside the home. Jamie Stanley, informa- tion officer with the Huron County OPP, said it appeared that the suspect did not break in as there was no damage to the house documented in a report on the arrest filed by an officer at the scene. The report, Stanley said, merely states that the man had entered through a sliding door in the residence. The man told officers that he had sought entrance into the home to escape the frigid condi- tions, police said. Environment Canada had issued an extreme cold warning for Huron East on Feb. 12, with temperatures in the municipality falling to -17 in the afternoon, which felt like -28 with the windchill. It was still in effect the next day. A further investigation found that the man is cur- rently serving a probation sentence with a condition to keep peace and be of good behaviour, according to Huron OPP. The municipality stressed that the advisory was notrom ted bythe P P detection of any bacteria and was merely a "precau- tionary measure" until work on the system was completed.
