Bantam Boys Curling team heading
to provincial finals in Oshawa
Dave Flaherty
The Huron Expositor
There are high hopes for the
Seaforth Bantam Boys Curling
team heading to Oshawa this
weekend.
They qualified for the provin-
cial finals with a first place finish
at the regional meet held in
Ridgetown the weekend of Jan.
24 and 25.
The provincial finals run from
Feb. 5 to Feb. 8.
Coach Ron Pryce said this is
the second year in a row they
have qualified for the provin-
cials, but they have higher
expectations this time around.
"Last year was different as we
had some losses along the way,"
Pryce said. "This year, the confi-
dence in their play was just
incredible. It's just a totally dif-
ferent team."
Pryce said the team's recent
play has been dominant; in fact,
they have yet to play a full game
on their journey to the provin-
cial finals.
With the confidence the team
is showing, Pryce believes they
can continue on the same path
this weekend.
"I think it will be very similar
to the regionals. They've turned
a lot a lot of heads and they will
be looked at as top competition.
It's been very fun to watch."
Three of the four team mem-
bers from last year are returning
to the provincials.
Brayden Pryce (skip), Ian
MacGregor (vice -skip), Bennett
Taylor (second) and Sam
MacGregor (lead) make up the
team.
Two of the players will be
moving up to junior next year
due to their age, something
Pryce believes could provide
extra motivation to go out on a
high note.
In preparation for this week-
end, the team has had several
practices in the past few weeks.
While he said he couldn't
really name any weaknesses the
team has had, Pryce told The
Expositor they would be work-
ing on their strategy, as he felt it
could use a bit of improvement.
All the boys' immediate fami-
lies will be joining in on the trip
to show them support during
the most important weekend of
their season.
When it comes to the benefits
of participating in curling, Pryce
said the game can teach kids
important lessons about sports-
manship, etiquette and respect.
