Huron Expositor, 2015-12-09, Page 1212 Huron Expositor • Wednesday, December 9, 2015 The Exeter Seaforth U19AA Provinical Ringette Special to the Expositor The Exeter Seaforth U19AA Provinical Ringette team headed to Mississauga for a tournament this pass weekend and won one and lost three. The locals started with a win 7-5 against the host team Mississauga. In the first half the locals start off slow notching only one goal from Hailey Wietersen from Rachelle Keys in the half. Exeter Seaforth got into action about six and a half minutes into the second with Avery Wedow, Amanda Verbeke and Keys each getting singles and assists credited to Maddie Cormier and Wedow. Mississauga stayed with the locals to keep the game close, but Reagan Vandewalle scored on a Verbeke, Wietersen pass to take the lead. Cormier and Wedow summed up the scoring at seven with Amanda Hodgert, Alyssa Vanderkuylen and Van- dewalle getting assists. In game two Exeter Seaforth were matching their Richmond hill opponents goal for goal in the first ten minutes with Corm- ier get two on passing from Hodgert, Verbeke and Vande- walle. Behind 3-2 going into the second half the locals got into some penalty issues and fell behind despite working hard. Wedow rounded out the final score at 6-3 with Natalie Reay getting the helper. Game three Guelph jumped into a two -goal lead before the U19AA got started on a Wedow, Vanderkuylen pass relay to Hodgert for the first goal. Again an aggressive attack to get the ring found the locals in the box, but Verbeke helped the cause getting a later first half goal to make the score 4-2 with 20 min- utes to play. Early in the second Vanderkuylen and Wedow con- nected with Hodgert to one within one. Although the locals could not net another ring they stayed strong through out the game despite losing 7-3. Game four rounded out the tournament play with a 3-1 loss to Cambridge. Hodgert notched the lone goal on a pass from Jes- sica Quinn. The game was a fast end to end match with lots of chances. Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on April 14, 1923, Helen (nee Smith) Wesenberg of Seaforth was in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of the late George Wesenberg. Loving mother of Larry and JoAnn Wesenberg of Stratford, Meryl! Wesenberg of Seaforth, Dianne and Wayne Drake of Seaforth and Dawne Wesenberg of Stratford. Helen will be missed by many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews. Also survived by her sister Mary Koebel of Kitchener and brother-in-law Ron Dale of Seaforth. Predeceased by her sons Joe and Fred Wesenberg, parents Ferdinand and Wanda Smith, and seven sisters and two brothers. Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held in the spring at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Brodhagen.
