Huron County Christmas Bureau is a huge success
The Huron County Christ-
mas Bureau in Seaforth is
receiving "tremendous" sup-
port from Huron East and
the area.
This event organized by
the Children's Aid Society in
Goderich and sponsored by
the Egmondville Church is a
unique charity that helps
support families in need, so
they can have some presents
under the tree. Unlike most
Christmas offerings the
HCCB runs their operation
rather differently than other
organizations. Instead of giv-
ing the families a bag full of
gifts, they treat this like they
were shopping in a store and
let them choose what they
want. This year there are five
towns participating in the
charitable trust throughout
the county including Wing -
ham, Exeter, Clinton, Goder-
ich and Seaforth. The dona-
tions began on November 30
and are ending on Decem-
ber 4.
Wendy Hutton is the Sea -
forth manager who is
responsible for organizing all
the volunteers in the area,
she said the community as
well as businesses and other
families from Huron East are
primarily the reason why the
event is so successful. She
also added that this is a
"heart felt" moment and
she's more than happy to be
of assistance to those who
require a helping hand.
"I love saying Merry
Christmas to the families
going out, I would say 99.9
per cent are very apprecia-
tive of what we do," stated
Hutton.
"When you know a bit of
the family background, we
don't know a lot, but it's nice
to know they will have a
good Christmas."
In addition to the contri-
bution, St. James Catholic
Elementary School decided
to aid in the cause by donat-
ing 232 pairs of socks. And
on December 4 the JK/SK
kindergarten class marched
to the bank to turn their $140
of coins into bills. The group
of 26 students saved up
change to buy Christmas
gifts for the children at the
HCCB. Also joining the list
of many donors was the Sea -
forth Optimist Club; the vol-
unteered organization pro-
vided $500 worth clothing
tops. The families are
expected to pick up all of
their gifts on December 7-8.
In the future, if you are a per-
son in need during the holi-
days, you can call the Chil-
dren's Aid Society at (519)
524-6705.

The Tree of Lights
shines once again

It was a chilly December 6 night
in Seaforth, but none of the tem-
peratures could stop the commu-
nity from gathering together for
the 24"' annual Tree of Lights at
the Seaforth Community Hospital.
Accompanied by some locals,
hospital personnel, the Salvation
Army Band and a surprise visit
from Santa Claus; nothing could
stop this event from bringing the
"gift of light."
After the band played a number
of classic Christmas songs with the
help of the crowd, a light switched
and instantly a huge twenty -foot
tree in front of the hospital lit
bright.
Each light on the tree repre-
sented a memory of people that are
loved and those who have passed.
The Ladies Auxiliary sponsors this
event, which is a group of 50 peo-
ple that have been around since
1933. This specific occasion has
raised more than $40,000 in the
last two decades.
"They do some very creative
fundraising events, they work very
hard and we're very thankful that
they support the organization the
way they do," Anne Campbell, site
administrator for the Seaforth hos-
pital, stated in an interview after
the event.
