Pedestrian bridge along trail charitable project supported by
golfers at tenth Friends of South Huron Trail Golf Tournament
The use of the Mac -
Naughton -Morrison Section
of the South Huron trail has
increased and vehicle traffic
on Morrison Line seems to
have increased as well. This
two-lane municipal road is
the only way for people to
link the north and south
sides of the MacNaughton-
Morrison and Morrison
Dam Conservation Area sec-
tions of the South Huron
Trail. The speed limit has
been reduced and trail
crossing signs have been
installed. Safety can be
increased even more if this
new pedestrian bridge is
built downstream of Morri-
son Dam. The project goal
for the pedestrian bridge is
$175,000 and about $50,000
has been raised towards this
goal.
People who would like to
golf and raise funds for this
community improvement
project, to create a new
pedestrian bridge on the
South Huron Trail, have a
chance to do both. The Tenth
South Huron Trail Golf Tour-
nament takes place on Mon-
day, August 31, 2015 at Iron-
wood Golf Club.
The proposed bridge will
be the same style as the Stir-
ling Bridge, midway between
Exeter and Morrison Line. It
would include a steel bridge,
with boardwalks at both
ends, and links to the exist-
ing trails. It would be suita-
ble for pedestrians, cyclists,
strollers, wheelchairs, the
South Huron Trail Mobile
(for people with limited
mobility), and winter visi-
tors. The completion of this
project could enhance use of
the trail for decades.
The charity golf event is a
Texas Scramble format and
is followed by lunch. Iron-
wood Golf club is located at
70969 Morrison Line, two
kilometres east of Exeter, just
south of Highway 83. For
more information visit
southhurontrail.com. Regis-
tration is 8:30 a.m. Shotgun
start is 9 a.m.
This year's special anni-
versary edition of the charity
golf tournament is raising
money for the pedestrian
bridge project. The fund-
raiser is moving to August on
this anniversary year and
organizers have added a
$10,000 hole -in -one prize for
this year's tournament.
Organizers of the tourney
say the golf tournament is a
"FUNdraising event" with an
emphasis on fun. Individu-
als can take part for $85. A
team of four can register for
$340. Singles are welcome
and will be placed on a team.
Participants will receive a
charitable gift receipt for
income tax purposes for part
of the registration. Those
receipts are mailed out after
the event. Those people who
aren't golfing can choose to
attend the lunch only for a
fee of $25.
The 2014 tourney raised
more than $3,500 for the
South Huron Trail with 14
teams taking part.
Local volunteers started
the golf tournament, which
has raised more than
$40,000 towards creation,
improvements, and mainte-
nance of the MacNaughton-
Morrison Section of the
South Huron Trail. Commu-
nity volunteers have contin-
ued to be vital to the tourna-
ment's success since

Huron County's 10 municipal partners have launched a
collaborative economic development strategic planning process
in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and
Rural Affairs. The strategic planning process launched on August
10, 2015 and will continue through the month of October at which
point municipal staff will look to develop workplans and budgets
to help implement short and long term projects and goals.
This process will seek to dovetail each municipal economic
development strategic plan in an effort to address gaps, seek
out opportunities for collaboration and consolidation, share best
practices and develop effective and streamlined performance
measurement techniques.
Each of the following municipalities has appointed a five -person
core team to work through this process:
• Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh
• Bluewater
• Central Huron
• County of Huron
• Goderich
• Howick
• Huron East
• Morris-Turnberry
• North Huron
• South Huron
We want to hear your voice!
Members of the community are encouraged to participate
in this process. Each municipal core team must develop a
strategic planning committee that they consult throughout this
process. If you have ideas about how we can strengthen and
grow Huron County's economy and would like to participate on
a municipal strategic planning committee please email:
