OPP say motorcycle fatalities are on the rise

With an increase of deaths
among motorcycles in 2015, the
Huron County OPP are urging
motorcycle drivers to "ride to
expect the unexpected."
According to the OPP there has
been 25 recorded motorcycle
deaths this year in Ontario. In a
press release prepared by Huron
County OPP media relations
officer, Jamie Stanley the docu-
ment stated 15 of those deaths
involved people between the
ages of 45-65. Since the motorcy-
cle training course advises to
"drive as if you are invisible," the
police say that slogan addresses
the fact that car drivers who are
looking for larger vehicles some-
times don't become aware of
motorcyclists in their path, espe-
cially at intersections.
"I never saw him" is some-
thing heard all too often at the
scene of a motorcycle crash,"
Stanley said.
To stay safe while sharing the
road with a motorcycle, the OPP
are prompting all drivers to "
always have a watchful eye for
motorcycles, the safety of motorcy-
clist is the responsibility of
everyone."
Not only must other drivers be
aware, but also the police say
riders are prompted to be mind-
ful of other motorists at all
times and be ready with a coun-
ter maneuver to avoid their
errors.

portation Motorcycle Handbook it

and regulations. The OPP and the
